Did Chris Smith really say that this was the first NFL game he's ever seen, or did Kouvaris just make that up? I thought he said it was the first NFL game he's been to, which isn't out of the ordinary whatsoever.

There was an interview where one of the players said they'd never attended an NFL game. Was on the news Thursday night, Thursday interview after practice. Can't remember if it was Smith or not.

Wow. Kouvaris was really awful. On the Winston Guy pick 6, he sounded like he was doing play by play of paint drying. Just awful.

 

I recorded the game and just watched it.  I was amazed at his absolute lack of emotion during the run.  I almost expected him to interrupt the pbp to make a phone call.

Yeah, every big play was met with the same monotone coverage.  Brunell was trying to at least sound enthusiastic, but he's not much better.

Sam's sports prowess legend is as mystical as Frank Frangies. 

 

Frangie was a backup punter/kicker when he played HS football.  He was a pitcher in baseball who had enough velocity to make him a favorite of big hitters who liked their fast balls out over the plate. 

 

Sam supposedly played college ball, but there's little to no evidence of that ever happening except for his claims. 

 

Brunell really was gushing.  It was borderline painful.

Frangie was bad as expected, in the 1st quarter he tried to say Bucs and I can't remember what he said but it wasn't Bucs. Multiple occassions where he called the wrong penalty even after the ref just said it.

He said "Duckeneers".

Sam was doing PBP in the mold of Pat Summerall who for folks the age of Sam and older is how you do play by play...  As a local broadcaster, that's all I need as I watched it this morning.  He got the names right....  Mark got back into his exactly right mode again early in the game when they were both doing analysis...   This is a little different than when the team had non-Jacksonville announcers who weren't as close to the team and know about it....

So people can't have a gripe with Kouvaris if they liked Sexton according to some law of parallel play-by-by-guy criticisms that you've invented?

To me it seems like people are overdoing it regarding bashing Kouvaris and in most cases Frangie. I just don't see how those 2 can be that bad to the point where you get all this criticism at them (such as in this thread) by the same people that rarely if ever bashed Sexton. Thats the only point I'm trying to make. It just seems weird. Like they have some sort of axe to grind with Sam K or Frangie because they took Sexton's job or something.

Just glancing over this game preview and noticed this.

Sam Kouvaris? What the hell? This is NFL football not the smarmy Olympics.

 

The last few years, the team had Kevin Kugler calling the games and he was excellent.

 

Gotta say, I love nearly everything Khan and his people have done with the team. But having Frangie be the radio voice and Kouvaris be the preseason voice are real head scratchers.

I replayed the game, and that was the most God awful thing I've heard.

 

First, the stuttering steeler on the radio. Now, sam "do you know who I am" on the tv.

 

Jaguar fans deserve better.

I thought Frangie did pretty good.  Kouvaris would do better if he simply added some inflection to his voice during an exciting play.  He called the Winston Guy pick 6 with the same passion one would reserve for describing obscure IRS regulations.
