Time will tell, but the same issues were there last year, and Yarno also oversaw a pretty bad run blocking team in Detroit.

My highlights of the night weren't Brewster's bad snaps but McClendon getting pancaked twice, not to mention him literally whiffing on blocks. There is a reason this guy has been with 5 teams in 3 years. He is terrible. I'm assuming since he will be starting there is no one behind him. I fully expect Caldwell and Gus to bring in a number of guys once rosters are cut down.

Somebody attempted to take me to task on my assessment a couple weeks ago. Where is that Jr scout now. I'd love to hear his thoughts on Brewster's performance tonight.

He had a bad game snapping the ball, that's obvious. He was simply snapping too fast, first start at center, lot's of adrenalin, it happened. I really didn't understand those griping about his blocking last night. It was McClendon that was getting blown up, Brewster was at already at the 2nd level by the time tackles were made. I guess you like  calling out new members that disagree with you?

Yeah after watching the game back and focusing more on OL play, Brewster wasn't the problem and I'd say only one of the two "bad" snaps was truly bad.  The first one was only off by a few inches.  Yes it came quick but the QB should still be able to grab that, it didn't look like it was off on the snap count either.  

 

The guard play was pretty rough and McClendon got knocked on his [BLEEP] too many times.  I think the team ends up adding at least one more interior lineman after cuts are made and I do think the OL will play better with time.  I don't think it will be a strength this year by any account but I think they'll be better.  

 

Joeckel looked good and that makes me happy.

He held his ground long enough for a quick pass.  Nothing more. The rest of the time he was pulling the other way from a rollout, pulling to the second level to run block or making a bad snap. I guess he seemed to know his assignments on the rollouts and ZBS run plays, so there's that.

He was bad the last two years and I was right there with you.  However, objectively, he wasn't terrible other than the two snaps this game.

He's just not good. Admittedly I am going off his whole body of work rather than just last night. And I'll even give him the first snap; it really wasn't horrendous. Chad shoulda had it.

Maybe that the hybrid scheme is too much for these players to absorb? Thats just a guess. 

 

All I do know is that The Jags running game was pretty good in 2012 with largely the same personnel that it sucked with in 2013. The same OL coach that presided over the Jags in 2013, also oversaw bad run blocking teams at his last coaching gig in Detroit. 

 

2012 rushing stats - 1369 yards (30th in the league).  3.8 YPA (tied with 5 teams at 23rd).  5 TDS (tied with STL at 29th).  Fantastic.

2013 rushing stats -  1260 yards (31st in the league).  3.3 YPA (31st in league).  7 TDS (tied with 2 teams at 28th)

 

Slight regression in stats, but 2012 was aided by pre-lisfranc injury MJD, who really only had the 1 good game against Indy.

I understand how this game is played but I'm not going to play deaf, dumb, and blind because you choose too. 

We don't have an established person at center.  The top 2 contenders have a terrible track record and just put on a bad performance.  There is real concern there that needs to be addressed.  Of course you were always the know it all for calling out anyone for "soiling themselves."  The soil mostly ended up in your face because at the end of the day your on the wrong side of the arguement.
