It's not a lifetime ban unless he allows it to become one.  R. Jay Soward wasn't issued a lifetime ban from the NFL.  He simply gave up trying to get his life on track to make it back.  I fear the same outcome with Blackmon.

The players agreed to the CBS where those things are highly regulated and the punishments are firmly set in stone. The other legal actions you bring up don't have set punishments assigned to them like controlled substance violations.


Let's not act like Blackmon has a small problem with booze and smoking a couple joints. He's been pulled over for drinking and driving multiple times.

As has already been pointed out, the rules were agreed upon by the players when the new CBA was ratified.  The rules on substance abuse are laid out and crystal clear for the players.  That's not the same for other legal infractions.  Since Blackmon isn't a rapist or a wife beater, let's focus on what he is, an alcoholic who can't stay out of trouble.  As long as that's the case, his time in the NFL is going to be brief.

I hope Justin can come back.  As foolish and he's been, from all accounts he's a nice guy and a good teammate, and indisputably a good player.  I find it hard to root against good people, even if they have addiction issues that hurt my team.

I've actually been very positive toward most of the Gus Bradley/ Caldwell regime Jaguars players. Sanders/ Cyp/ Gratz are pretty much my only targets of those.
