Most of you think Grigson is a bad GM and has made many mistakes. However, you guys also think that Andrew is an average/not good QB. You do realize that both can't be bad/average to lead us to two playoff births and two double digit win seasons in a row. So which one is it? Or are you guys going to pull the lastonealive card of "you just always get lucky"?

Mathis had a career year and coincidentally is suspected of using performance enhancers...


The colts play in a weak division. Texans had an abysmal season. The jaguars were better than the year before but still bad. Titans were not good at all.

Personally I think Luck is an excellent QB. Not on the truly elite level yet, but clearly has the makeup for it. I won't be surprised when he's throwing somewhere around 40 TDs in a season.

 

However, that has nothing to do with Grigson. The Luck choice was a true no brainer, anyone at all could have been brought in to pull that lever.

 

Aside from Luck none of Grigson's other moves have come out as exceptional. His trades are boneheaded, his draft picks besides Luck aren't very impactful with the exception of Hilton, who is really just part of Luck's success and would be thought of as "just a guy" if he were part of the Jaguars the last couple of years. Lastly Grigson's choice of head coaches hasn't shown to be exceptional, either. Pagano hasn't done anything so far to show he's not a guy who can come along for a ride of success, but he's clearly not one of the Harbaugh brothers, either.

 

I expect by next season the Jaguars will have passed the colts and your team will spend the next 10 or so years as the Dolphins did to the Bills in the late 80's and early 90's, or even the way the colts did to the Pats and Brady while the colts were still part of the AFCE.

 

I didn't bring up Grigson in terms of "He is a genius! He selected Luck!!!" I was stating that you can't have a bad GM & an average QB and have the success that we have had thus far. It doesn't add up.

 

Also, Grigson landed almost every draft pick his first year, his second year is shaky, and his free agents are questionable as well. I'm not sold on him and I don't think he's great by any means... I also don't think he's an idiot either. He's made some good moves. Also, what do you mean by Grigson's "choice of head coaches"? We've only had 1 head coach, unless you count Bruce Arians, who was a good choice.

 

The excitement you have for the Jags in the future is very similar to what Colts fans feel now. Yet, we're wrong, irrational, & "homers"

the main reasoning is that its a bad division. until one of the other teams improve, the colts will keep taking advantage of a bad division.

Well I never said you were wrong to be excited. You have a great QB, and that means you'll be competitive while he's healthy.

 

I just think what I've seen out of the team so far projects to the Jaguars forming a stronger overall roster for the future than what I've seen of the colts, and Bortles looks like a guy that will be on Andrew Luck's level, so I think the team and coaching around him will make the difference and the Jaguars will end up as the superior team in the future.

Based on what I've seen of Bortles in college, in camp, in the scrimmage, and in the preseason so far. He looks like a cross between Luck and Roethlisberger.

 

I wasn't posting here when Luck was drafted, but I recall his rookie season and a few games in it was clear he wasn't hype and was going to be successful.

 

However, getting back to the Jaguars and colts rosters, I think the biggest problem your team will have is that Luck made you too good too fast and Mathis and Wayne are too old to be great players going into the future. While I expect the Jaguars will have another top 12 pick next draft and haul in another 3 or 4 impact guys.

 

I can see the Jaguars giving the colts the kind of fits that the Chargers gave the colts in the second half of the aughts where even if Luck is a little bit better than Bortles due to experience, he'll be the guy facing the more difficult challenging defense.

well clearly the texans were overrated and played above their talent level. the jaguars were horrible and the titans were bad too. bad division. they made it in as a wildcard. they had 3 good wins vs the packers, lions, and chiefs.

I think most organizations aim at building the team itself, not just hoping they can luck themselves into victory. That's the only reason they took Luck over Peyton. Luck's younger and offers them more rolls of the dice, but eventually the Colts need to develop an identity. Unfortunately their trifecta of owner, GM, and head coach currently seem incapable of doing so.
