Frank Frangie

Quote:I think you're probably over-thinking this whole thing.

1010XL got the contract. Frangie has been with 1010XL a long time and probably brings in significant revenue for the station. 1010XL said they want Frangie to do pbp and Khan's rep probably said something like, "Hmm, ok."

I wonder if Shad Khan knows who Frank Frangie is? I assume Mark Lamping does.

It's not like we previously had Vin Scully doing the games.

I did get a good chuckle when Lamping went into the TV booth and told Sam that he and Brunell were in "postseason form". Probably gave Kouvaris a pants tent.

Personally, good for Frangie, but it's radio broadcast and being the visual guy that I am, I'll stick to stadium or television viewing. But I'm surprised that so many people are upset about Frangie.

I was a big radio guy as I watched the game. Always had my headphones on one ear to listen. It was good for quicker updates, clarification of names, who made the play etc. Added to the game experience. Now I get updates on injuries, stats, etc. as quick or quicker then the radio so not sure how much I will rely on it anymore. Only situation I can think of is if I can't go to games, or get to a TV.

I'm at the games so I wear a headset for the same reasons as Trav mentioned above.  I'm not "upset" about Frangie.  Just completely unimpressed.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I finally caught a couple of his calls on one of the radio shows and I echo your sentiments.

If the goal was an upgrade to Sexton, it's a miss.  At his best, he's almost on par with Sexton.  We'll see if it improves, but I'm skeptical.  I expect to see Khan making a move to fix that next year. Frangie was simply the only available option when they made the change.

Agree.

He's a terrific baseball guy.  So, maybe he'll grow into it.

Or, he'll get a job as the play by play for the Suns and we'll be set free.

I prefer Sexton but maybe Frangie can grow into the role a little bit.

I wasn't real impressed by his overall football acumen on the 8/11 Jaguars Today either.

I am already counting the games. Give him the hook, and put Sexton in for the rest of this season for God's sake. Then start the search for a competent PBP guy now. That gives them a whole year to make the right choice. They didn't make the right choice this time around.

It will only get worse for you, and all of us for that matter.

I really liked Sexton as the voice, but then again I grew up listening to him PBP the Jags so maybe I am a bit bias. Frangie felt dififcult to listen to. He has this weird slur of speech in his voice that makes me think he is drunk while he is speaking. He doesn't really have a PBP voice. Hopefully they find a better option, but I really have no idea who it would be. Rick Ballou has a decent radio voice, but it is a bit generic.

Anyone able to find the old Sexton thread on the old board?  That would be a great thread to see who didnt like Frangie at the time.

Quote:My comment was based on so many people on the MB who were tired of Sexton. Said he was no good, boring, etc. Wanted a change.

Same old story. Careful what you wish for I suppose.
Yeah, some like myself wanted a change, but not a change for the worse. Anyone who listens to Frangie knows he shouldn't be the Jags play by play guy. That's not on those who want change. That is on the person who made the bad hire.

People said the same thing when we hired Murlarkey. But if we didn't hire Murlarkey we never would have had Guy and I think we are all thankful for that change. Hopefully Frangie and the Murlarkey situation are similar.

It may have been he was their only option based on the timing of everything.

Yeah, I know there were a lot of people saying they wanted a change.  When it went from Sexton to Frangie, a lot may be second guessing that reaction.

I've always liked Sexton.  You have to be animated if you're on the radio, and I thought he pulled it off.

Maybe. As mentioned in edited post, if it takes Frangie to get to someone better than Sexton I'm fine with that. I think Sexton ran his course. It wasn't that he was bad, but I always felt we could do better.

I actually didn't mind Kouvaris (sp?) though.

I watched the condensed version of the game though so I didn't get to hear him in all his glory.

I can't believe I am saying this but Frangie did pretty well last night.  I am beginning to like the dynamic of the three.

Bo and Lags are keeping him in check which is a good thing.
