Quote:CNN mentioned something recently in regards to the plight of African Americans in St. Louis since the end of segregation in the 1960's.

There is a seprate issue between Blacks and and the police, which most of whom are white.

Why aren't there more black cops? I notice it as well. But simply put, there are not many minorities in the police force. Dont give me "they cant get in schtickl"

Quote:So, basically Eric hates cops.  You don't want to get shot, don't do something stupid when engaged by a cop.

I've been put in back of a cop car for "doing nothing".  I must have been profiled!  Looking for a house party...me and a buddy (both white) were pulled over in the neighborhood.  He made me get out (not friendly at all) and sit in the back of the car (maybe because I lift a little and he felt like his safety was threatened?) and he cuffed my buddy.  We weren't drinking or driving erratically.  I/He didn't scream and yell or resist.  Just did what we were told.  More cops came (why, not sure) and then about 30 minutes later we left.  One of the cops was cool and apologized and said stay safe.

Simple.

I hate cops because I think the militarization of the police is a bad thing? I guess because I think the government is to big I hate America as well?

Maybe cops militarize because they see videos of guys blowing stuff up on a pond for some bizarre reason

Eric, I think you asked why the video took so long to get out.

Now we know who suppressed the release of the video.  It wasn't the Ferguson PD.

You are correct, this issue is pretty much in all major cities across America.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

Tatinisha is not happy. But all will be ok..Benjamin Crump to the rescue.

The rest of the story coming out. This cop did NOT arbitrarily just shoot this guy while his hands were up. But what do facts matter. These animals who looted and destroyed were not interested in that.

How can one come to judgement the same day the shooting occurred?

Well..Maybe Crump does. He so in the know.

Opportunists have to jump to conclusions in order to assure they can create the most amount of chaos.  Level headed folks waiting for the entire story to play out rarely prevail when knee jerk reactions will do just fine.

Hmm...  just as I kind of suspected all along.  This wasn't some "innocent child" gunned down for no reason.  He wasn't shot in the back.  There is some question as to whether or not he had his hands up.

Which is the most likely scenario?  I'm not saying one or the other is fact, just putting this out there for consideration.

SCENARIO 1 - This was some "innocent child" that was just walking down the street, was approached by police, was cooperative, had his hands up surrendering and was shot in the back for no reason.  This is the narrative that has been fed to us for the past week.

SCENARIO 2 - This was a very large thug that has no respect for the law or authority.  He has just committed a strong arm robbery and is walking down the middle of a street disrupting traffic.  He is confronted by the police, becomes combative and when he charges the police officer he is shot multiple times.  Perhaps the "hands up" thing wasn't because he was surrendering, rather it was a natural instinct to "shield" one's self after being struck by at least one bullet.

It's starting to appear more and more like scenario 2 is probably closer to the actual story.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I'll do so here as well.  If you want to see the situation in Ferguson, MO come to a quick end, all you need to do is get the media out of there completely.  If there are no cameras, reporters, or media whores out there recording what's happening, the instigators will go home.

If there were no cameras there, you'd darn sure not see guys like Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton swooping  in looking for donations to THEIR causes.

The media does stir up controversy in events like this all the time but the solution cant be a media blackout. Freedom of the press is important even when some use it to stir up a fervor.

Media Blackout isn't an option, they're protect under the constitution to report whats going on. The problem is you've got extreme radicals flowing in right now, people from all over looking to pick a fight. There's no real good option right now, they're almost certainly going to have to use force to disburse the crowd, last night was pretty violent from what I've read, it's probably going to get worse.

I never suggested a media blackout was an option.  I'm just saying if the media turned tail and left, so would most of the violent protesters and looters, many of whom are being shipped in from outside of St. Louis.

well I agree most of the violence is coming from outside, I don't think the media not covering the event would change much. If anything they should close the city down to outsiders, the governor really has the power here to calm things down but he seems more bent on being politically correct right now.

I disagree.  No cameras telecasting their activities would take away any motivation for those who instigate these situations.

The governor deserves a good chunk of blame for this situation happening.

You don't worry no cameras would give the authority's grounds to do whatever they wanted to disburse the crowd? I'd be worried about a massive wave of violence without the media keeping an eye on both sides, the last thing we need is 30-40 people killed in clashes with the police, you'd see riots in every major city.

Yes, this is America when the National Guard has to be called in to quell riots by people protesting the death of a thug who was trying to "keep it real" by going Thug4Life on a cop doing his job. The more the story comes out, the more we see that all these people are protesting is, not for their place in a civilized society, but to keep their preferred culture of drugs and crime. It's time the African-American community got it's head out of the past and get their rampaging hordes of criminals under control, and get their families back to the proper structure, before they destroy themselves and their people.
