Bortles to visit
|
Quote:He doesn't have more tools than Gabbert. His arm is weaker and his overall size and athleticism are the same as that of Gabbert. Right now he is hyped up in the same way Gabbert was three years ago -- size and potential. However, he is not skittish in the pocket and isn't afraid of contact, which are good traits to have. He is like Gabbert in that they are 6'5 white underclassman QB's. Any attempt beyond that to say they are "the same" is pretty lazy. We show less advertisements to registered users. Bortles actually is pretty impressive. He has a lot of things you can build on, but we need a leader in the huddle. Not saying Bortles can't do that, but we need someone who can demand the huddle and have the teammates fight every play

Idk Bortles well enough to see if he has it. If you watch the Tom Brady special on NFL. He was always confident he would win the starting job. He never had a "can I do this?" thought.
Quote:We need a guy with supreme confidence. Idk Bortles well enough to see if he has it. Same goes with Russell Wilson. The guy looks at every player in the huddle and makes sure everyone is on the same page. Demanding. Leadership!

He had multiple game winning drives and helped ucf have their best season ever. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Pretty sure he had the confidence of his team. He had multiple game winning drives and helped ucf have their best season ever. That is a good sign, but all these guys have success. Im talking about a personality trait that seems to translate well to the pros. If he can be a Big Ben or Tom Brady guy, then he will have success cause he has the physical tools.
I cannot in good conscience click on a Bleacher Report link.
Only a chump boos the home team!
Gabbert was all raw potential that never panned out, Bortles has that raw potential, but he is tough and a gamer. He stood up in the face of much more talented teams than his own and propelled them to a BCS bowl win. He may not have a lazor arm, but he found a way to put his team in position to win every game and take them to their highest level they have ever been at. I am a big supporter of us taking Bridgewater if he is there, and I go back and forth on wether I like Bortles or Manziel better after TB, but I wont be upset if we take Bortles and certainly dont think he will be anything like Gabbert.
Quote:I cannot in good conscience click on a Bleacher Report link. Understandable. But the guy who wrote it also writes for NFP and has a pretty extensive history as a former NFL scout and director of scouting.

Quote:He had a better college career but not better tools, except maybe athleticism. Gabbert has a massive arm he just never uses it. Bortles has above average arm strength t best from what I've seen of him. Quote:Still waiting to see this massive arm. I have never seen him throw a deep ball without the receiver having to back pedal to make the catch. I think his arm is extremely overrated. I would say his arm is middle of the road compared to others in the NFL. Not to mention his passes flutter like a shot duck.lol, massive arm ![]() so true trunt87, I dont even know if his arm is middle of the pack I have seen more arm strength out of Bortles in his first 2 career preseason games than I seen out of Gabbert his whole career and its not even close.
Some posters look real smart right now. I was mostly going for Manziel back in March.. :pinch:
Looking back... his decision to throw at the combine was just Bortles strutting his stuff. It had nothing to do with the misperception that he was trying to "catch up" to those watching on the sideline.
Instead, he was the leader pulling away. Those that didn't throw, should have (it could have helped them, if they threw well...)

But this year, there were none of those guys. Bortles was confident enough in his ability that it would raise his stock. Some players were just avoiding it to stop the bleeding. Edit: whoops, meant to quote pirkster.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:I actually really like Bortles, and if we trade down with Atlanta I'd be fine with him or Mack at 6. He is very much a gamer. I'll just pat myself on the back here....
Quote:Yeah, I can't say that I don't have that same concern. Maybe not to the same degree as I felt it with Gabbert, as Gabbert simply looked terrible on footage, wheras, Bortles doesn't look "terrible", but he really doesn't "wow" you either....
