Just start Bortles already

#41

He will be starting.

So basically people who don't want him to start want him to be perfect first? what if he never improves his footwork? just not play him at all?

I don't think anyone has said that. I think people are saying sit tight until the coaches make the decision because they have the most intimate knowledge of what's going. He will start at some point.

Start em.

seems like the arguments not to start bortles are a defense of ones original position.  mistakes were made to say bortles should sit all year when he was drafted. no biggie still time for them to change their minds. and its okay to not be right all the time.

Quote:Preseason is still a glorified practice. Let's not lose sight of the point to make a sarcastic joke. Preseason is a way to see how far he has come and the closest way to have almost near game reps without the consequences.

He may be ready anyway. All I'm saying is whatever the coaches decide I'm cool with. It looks like it's working so far
Well if it is a glorified practice why would your rookie quarterback look so much better then your starter against the ones!

Just to add. Tom Brady isn't exactly the same QB he was as a rookie. Just because you start throwing the ball 30 times on a sunday doesn't mean you stop learning off the field.

He looks ready, just play him.

Quote:I have been openly anti-Henne since the day he was re-signed.  But c'mon kids..  THIS is our best option as an opening day starter?!  This is a first glance assessment of what I saw out of him tonight, without the advantage of multiple viewings.

- Accurate on a couple of throws between 1 and 3 yards from the line of scrimmage.

- Rollout to the left and Henne badly misses on a throw of roughly ten yards

- Inaccurate throw on 3rd and 4 (Holding would have negated it anyway)

- A good throw to Hurns on 3rd and 7 in man coverage for the first down

- a tipped ball (Hanging Chad)

- Burns a timeout because guys aren't set up correctly.  After the timeout throws another ball on 3rd and 7 which is not even close

- Converts a 3rd and 16 to Hurns on a double slant where Rashean inexplicably gives a 15 yard cushion.  Good throw, great effort from Hurns to get the 1st.

- two sacks off play action for a 9 yard loss each (one he had no chance on as Joeckel missed an assignment.)

9-14 for 70 yards.  At no point was the offense really in rhythm.

Bortles comes in with no timeouts and in 1:40 moves the ball 89 yards.  His 2nd throw for 28 yards down the sideline was better than any two of Henne's throws.  He made a very dangerous throw on a blitz which could have been picked and followed it up by standing tall in the pocket and throwing a dart to Marcedes for a first down.  There was another throw which looked dangerous across the middle to Lee, but a defensive penalty was called and it seems Lee could have been thrown off his route by contact downfield.

Is he as ready as he could be? No.  Is he going to experience growing pains if thrust into the starting role? Absolutely.  But I would rather have a guy back there who has at least shown the ability to move this offense than suffer through whatever it is Henne does back there.  It just seems when Blake is back there, the playbook opens up a little more. Henne does not give us the best chance to win.  He just doesn't.  The future was bleak.  Now it's Blake.  Start the kid.
A. I do not like you.

B. I agree 100% with everything you said.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

I wouldn't announce it now if I was Bradley. Why give Philadelphia the chance to prepare for him? Keep them either game planning for both or thinking it is Henne

We all must be brain dead....
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

If Henne plays like usual and they continue to trot him on the field, they'll have problems. Henne is the worst starting QB in football. Blake is already leaps and bounds better than him. The game has yet to be too big for Blake. There will be moments he will struggle if he starts and I'm firmly confident Blake has the fortitude to handle the struggles.

I'll say it again, the gap between the two is far too wide to keep Blake off the football field for long. He needs to start and take his lumps. He has the ability to learn and take those lumps. He's not going to learn squat sitting behind the worst starting QB in the league.

The O-line could take years to become perfect... you got what you got. We looked magically better when Bortles was in that's all I know.

No pain, no gain.
