why subject your paying customers to henne?  and I completely disagree with sitting quarterbacks not just in bortles case.  can never convince we that carr would of been good behind a decent line or that the same gabbert who cowered in college only did it in the nfl because he played.  or ryan leaf could of been manning if only he sat.  its an excuse for getting it wrong in the draft by the next coaches for why they cant fix them.

there is no sure fire development procedure

 

even if letting bortles sit makes next to no difference to his mechanics watching the game, going through plays and getting mental reps and learning from hennes mistakes can only help him. 

 

I mean lets be honest today, we could be sitting with bortles having thrown two picks if things hadn't gone his way.

he was by no means perfect and with his work ethic I can only see time on the practice field improving him as a qb.

 

Added putting a more unified line in front of him and hence a more solid run game will only help and receivers with more experience and a better rapport will only make his transition to starter easier.

 

If we were superbowl contenders with a talent laden squad I'd be all in but we're not

we are a young team with potential. Why rush when waiting could create a better product for the next 10 years

Thats the thing.. With Henne starting Bortles gets virtually no reps in practice except for those with the scout team. If he sits he's literally gonna be sitting and learning mental reps. I think he still sits but I don't think it will be for very long.

I don't think he's being overly cautious he just see's the bigger picture. Bortles was drafted for next year when the team is really improved but he's playing ahead of his time in a sense and he's making the decision really difficult on the coaching staff.

In a few minutes, ESPN's Sportscenter will have a discussion whether Borltes is ready to start.

I don't even see how it's a discussion anymore, he's clearly physically and mentally ready. He's played at a high level every single chance he's been given. People go on and on about them changing his footwork but his footwork seems plenty good enough. His passes are on target and he makes throws and puts the football in places (multiple times now) almost every starter this team has had hasn't been able to do.


I don't believe for one second sitting him all season as the team has alluded to is the best choice. Blake has continued to show us it isn't the best choice.


He will gain valuable experience in being able to take the reps in practice and learn on the field as a rookie. Had his play and performance not overly justified him being the starter I'd understand the teams stance. But that isn't what's happened. He's handled himself tremendously well and earned the opportunity to play week 1 and I have no doubt he's ready.


He won't play lights out all season if he starts and will go through ups and downs but I feel he's shown the capability to handle that aspect of the game. He exudes confidence. It shows in the throws he makes.

That's a bad example. Many people could attest to him sitting as the reason he's so good.


I'm not even saying sit bortles for the year. I'm saying the front office will sit him until they feel he is naturally ready with his newly learned footwork. Maybe its another month, maybe its 2, none of us know.


Also I only have to worry about myself. The front office has to worry about a multi million dollar franchise with lots of employees and fans. Caution of my own life vs a major NFL franchise is totally different.


And again, its not caution, its technique. These guys had a plan all along and they're sticking to it for what they believe will produce a better long term product. (Yes I understand that bortles is already better than henne)


The idea is that bortles sitting will develop into an even better player than bortles now and provide more for the franchise. There is no reason to deviate from the plan just because you want to see bortles play right now.


Sustained success is better than a flash in the pan.

He has good athletic ability to not only roll out to avoid pressure but he has incredible ability to throw on the run. Am I the only one that notices the line play improving (or more, looking improved) when Blake is in?

i get that but with bortles i feel the things you can't teach he has in abundance, pocket presence, intelligence and playmaking ability

 

what he lacks you can gain from being on the scout team

he can ensure his footwork is fully fixed and that his throwing motion is perfect, both of which have come on leaps and bounds in the last few months

 

beside that he needs to just spend time in the film room studying, seeing different looks on the field to help him recognise things in game. Both of those things can be done while using henne as an anvil to get smashed as we forge our o line which lets be honest is diabolical.

 

Henne has for now only one benefit over bortles and that is better command of the offense which will make it easier for him to meld that offensive line whilst having the benefit of keeping bortles out of the firing line

 

although i admire lastonealives optimism he can have my signature to defile for the whole offseason next year if the jags make the playoffs

quite simply we dont have the roster talent or the experience to make that playoff push even with bortles 

 

3 years to rebuild the roster was what I reckon caldwell sold to khan when he hired him so 2015 is and has always been the season for me so I'm in no hurry to rush him in.

Blake will learn more and be better off getting the reps and playing the game versus sitting and not getting the reps with the team. What is he going to learn watching Henne play? What NOT to do? Henne can sit and be available to answer questions Blake has but I firmly believe Blake is better off playing now versus sitting and his play has confirmed that.
