Excuse to start Bortles week 1 - trade Henne to the Rams?....

It was a three way competition.  Everybody in the media said Pete Carroll was crazy, but Tarvaris Jackson was playing with a torn pectoral all the previous year.  He's still around after a brief stint in Buffalo.

When I first heard of the Bradford injury, my initial thoughts were to trade Henne as well.

But then I started thinking about Fisher.

Fisher has always run a very conservative offense.

If you look at his OL now, it is capable of being a strong run blocking unit.

Pedestrian QBs that aren't asked to do too much can have some success in very conservative schemes.

The offense can be bolstered by what should be a very strong defense for them.

I doubt the Rams make a deal for any QB.  Maybe they take an experienced waiver wire guy to be the backup.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

The Rams don't want a QB now.  They want to have their choice between Winston and Mariota next May which is a very likely scenario at this point.

You're probably right....along with Bullseye...

It was more just a blind hope than anything.

Man, but if the Rams do get the first pick and take Mariota... That's Mariota, Wilson, Kaepernick, and Thomas (in the future). That's a division full of teams with very athletic QBs and excellent defenses. Would be very interesting to watch.

If only the texans took garropolo it very well could be the best qb division in football. Especially how young everyone is

A. Henne could start for any other NFL franchise.

B. Someone would actually trade for him.

In my opinion, if they got anything for Henne, even a 7th rounder, it would trump the Gabbert trade as best trade in NFL history.
Gabbert.

Well, Savage played well for them in 2 of the 3 games so far. He led the winning TD drive last night going 5 for 6 for 80 something yards and a TD.

Mettenberger has a cannon but he's a tree in the pocket with bad knees at 22.  Savage is going to be another Matt Cassel...glimpses of something that could be good never quite gets there.  As long as the Texans don't get Winston I'll be happy.  I think Mariota is going to be another Oregon standout who is a product of the system and fizzles in the NFL.

With the way the Texans QB situation is I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a shot.

They went 4-5 with Kellen Clemens last year. Their defense and running game is good enough to where I would be surprised if they were in line for the first pick.

Mettenberger is Drew Bledsoe.

He will likely earn the team's moniker and ram Zach Stacy and Benny Cunningham into the line until they are limp and bloody.  Then he'll do it with Tre Mason.

TMD, I hope you are not seriously doubting everything that has been said all offseason about Chad Henne. There is zero chance David Caldwell is going to call anybody about trading him. The Rams know what he and Gus Bradley want to do with Blake Bortles, so I would be shocked if they waste time calling us. When teams lose starters, they don't immediately seek a trade. They wait for the final cutdown, when there surely will be some quarterbacks available, or promote their own guys.

I just don't see much improvement in Oakland.

This is exactly my thoughts!

Quote:The Rams could finish with 8 wins on the strength of Tim Tebow, and yes, they have serious interest.

But I think that they might sign Terrell Pryor after the Seahawks cut him, if for any reason, to pick his brain.

It would be quite a story is the Rams signed Tim Tebow and kept Michael Sam.    If any Head Coach is less worried about distractions than Jeff Fisher,  I've yet to see him coach in the NFL.

Even if by chance the Rams signed Tim Tebow,  I still believe Shaun Hill is their best option in 2014.   If Hill stays in one piece,  I think the Rams will win between somewhere betweeen 6 and 9 games.  Even playing in the NFC West.    Their Defensive Line alone is going to win them some games.

As for Shaun Hill,  granted he doesn't have great physical skills.   But he's a tremendous game manager,  leader,  and has great pocket instincts.

The rams are looking for a back up QB. They won't be offering enough to make trading Henne worthwhile.

This late in the offseason, teams don't willingly make themselves a team without a viable back up QB.

Oh crap, that's it.. Titans need to go ahead and cut Mettenberger, Texans need to do the same with Savage.. I bet they could even trade him straight up for Cassel and still get a pick back at this point, because Rooster says so. Rolleyes

Now on to reality.

It may not show this year, but this division is stockpiled with ripe young talent at the QB position.  Bortles has played great, which is the reason why O'Brien targeted him..and the reason why I'm not too worried about Savage.. (the other guy he targeted), He's going to be a player.  He's raw, but he definitely looks the part, has the talent, and a huge arm (strongest arm in his class).  Remember there were high profile QBs on the board in multiple rounds that Houston just let go by, it's not like they just settled on this pick.  They liked Tom Savage and I'm starting to see why.  They aren't going to throw him out there just yet, but I can definitely see why they drafted him. The guy has talent.  They only reason why he fell so low was lack in playing time.. he has first round talent.
