Quote:I disagree with this. I know in the case of the Raiders....they were coming off of a year in which they had a stellar running game few years back...then they had a coaching change and the new guy hired OC Gregg Knapp who switched the blocking scheme to a ZBS....and the Raiders running game, with the same personnel, struggled badly to gain YPC - and that was with all of the RB's....just like we have been seeing since we switched over to a ZBS. I'm no expert on blocking schemes but it seems like a type of deal where you need certain personnel to make the scheme work, which of course can take time. Kinda like switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4. It doesn't really make sense in that context for the Raiders (and us) to make a switch like that when the blocking scheme was already working.

Blake Bortles......YOU'RE FIRED! Dave Caldwell.....YOU'RE FIRED!
This whole thread is stupid. Nobody can realistically expect a guy who played right tackle four weeks and left tackle 12 plays, then could not use his right foot for 2-3 months, to show us why he is a #2 overall draft pick during his first NFL preseason at left tackle. So why is anybody complaining about how bad he looks now and how bad he was at right tackle? You have to watch him play all season if you want to judge the pick - and do so in 2015, when he is not coming off a severe injury. I am only concerned about people saying he sucks and is a bust, a wasted pick, etc. based on 12 plays and a single training camp. The rust will wear off in time for the Colts game in Week 3.

Quote:I'm assuming you are talking about the zone blocking scheme. IDK if that is a problem but you need talent no matter what scheme you run. Lets look at this line: Zane Beadles is far from a solid guard imho...
Quote:Zane Beadles is far from a solid guard imho... I personally wouldn't go after any linemen from a Peyton Manning QB team. They don't have to do much and its hard to judge how good they actually are. I'd much rather seek out a lineman from a team with a QB that holds on to the ball a lot as this way if a lineman is good in that situation, he'll be good anywhere.
Quote:I personally wouldn't go after any linemen from a Peyton Manning QB team. They don't have to do much and its hard to judge how good they actually are. I completely agree, but I will admit I was one of the many fooled thinking this a was a solid piece hopefully he can get it together though, I honestly feel like the later this line get some stability, the later we see the future face of our franchise on the field. No line = no bortles No bortles = slim chance of winning Quote:I personally wouldn't go after any linemen from a Peyton Manning QB team. The issues he is having is continuity with his LT and his C. They have only been together for a few months, and it takes time for a line to gel. You will see it become second nature by the bye week I would bet. Bowanko is a solid center it looks like. Much better than the likes of Brewster and McClendon.

Beadles was at his best when Football Jesus was back there. He's a much better fit in the ZBS than anyone else that was available, and everyone but people on this message board seem to understand that Oline is the last group to get it together, ESPECIALLY when 4 of the guys are new. Come mid-season we'll see this group playing at a much higher level (barring significant injury of course) because the talent this year is better than the talent last year. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
I wouldn't be too concerned. I thought he looked good Week 2 but he had a bad week last week.
Last year's draft was weak overall. Kinda of hard to say anything about the number 2 selection. Is he better than Fischer in KC? That remains to be seen as well. Fischer did play last year so I think it will pan out okay. I think the Rams tackle selection is the only lineman bust I can think of in recent years.

Quote:I personally wouldn't go after any linemen from a Peyton Manning QB team. They don't have to do much and its hard to judge how good they actually are. Come on. That is such a crude benchmark to use. It's like admitting you don't know what you're looking at, so you have to use some kind of absurd shortcut to make your choice. "Well he blocked for Peyton Manning, so I can't tell if he's any good." That's amateur hour. As for our offensive linemen, I would say to you guys, it takes time for a line to get in sync, and during that time, they are going to look bad when the lineman beside them acts in ways they don't expect. They don't get help when they expect it, or a defensive lineman doesn't get picked up, and they have to react to it after the ball has been snapped, and as a result, they are off balance and get beaten, or even pancaked. All these guys will look a lot better when they get in sync with the other guys. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Well, amateur hour must have also fooled our GM then too, ![]() If I'm running a team, I'm staying away from overhyped linemen that blocked for QB like Manning. As said, its much harder for an OL to block for a QB that holds on to the ball long (since he has to contain his assignment longer), so thats the first place I'd be looking when it comes to finding good OL. Granted the instances of Manning like QB are few and far between, so it wouldn't really be an issue much. Quote:Well, amateur hour must have also fooled our GM then too, without Beadles, where would we be? even worse Quote:Well, amateur hour must have also fooled our GM then too, Can I get some breakdown of Beadles play from you. Because I am watching him right now and he seems pretty good to me. Just sayin....

All OL look good with Manning. In fact its not bad to be a receiver on his team also. I wonder who the new Pro Bowl Receiver will be now that Welker is down.
By the way Welker needs to call it a career. Quote:Can I get some breakdown of Beadles play from you.We can only hope Joekyl and Beetles can start playing together. They sure are not now. I am not giving up though.
Quote:Can I get some breakdown of Beadles play from you. WHere exactly are you "watching him right now"?...lol. Not sure how you could say that any of the OL "seem" pretty good the way we've been playing up front. The run blocking is horrible - all of our RB with the exception of Robinson have horrid YPC's and thats because there are no holes to be exploited. The pass blocking has routinely missed assignments as you see free clean shots to the QB way too much. Bortles will last maybe 2 games if he is faced with the kind of shots Henne was taking. |
