I know what McCardell was when the Jaguars signed him. He was a sought after free agent when the Jaguars signed him.

 

As for Smith. His issue in Dallas was he was never on the field. He broke his leg as a rookie. And then had an appendectomy his second year that nearly cost him his life.

 

Hill has been a bust on the field.

Hill is someone you bring in at the beginning of camp, not the end. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to bring in a player to develop at this point.

If we had a bunch of older WRs with no developmental guys and in need of a 5th or 6th WR, then why not.

 

In our current state, we have mostly younger WRs in need of development (by my count, at least four (4) within their rookie year or the next [Lee, Robinson, Hurns, Sanders]).  They need as many practice reps as they can get.

He has bad hands and is not a refined route runner-more straight line speed than good change of direction, etc.

 

If he can't hang on with the receiver depleted Jets, he doesn't need to take up a roster spot here, especially with so many young developmental receivers here.

 

Besides, Tandon Doss is a bigger WR (6-2, 205) who has actually had a productive game.

But virtually everyone-including you-were thrilled with what the Jaguars did during the draft, especially at the WR spot.  Why risk slowing the development of at least 3 young WRs to bring in one who has already failed that will take reps from them? 

 

Maybe if another WR has a substantial injury, I take a chance on him.  Otherwise no.

Because it's not about what's best for the team.  It's about setting something up for down the road in the event Hill does "reclamate" his career in the league.  That way someone in this discussion can pull out the Back Patter 2000 to congratulate himself so aggressively it might appear to be a seizure.

I'd be interested in Hill. Kid had a ton of potential coming out.

 

 

He killed it at the combine, but you should when you aren't in pads, and indoors. I knew when I was watching him at the combine that some team would over draft him. He went from a 4th, or 5th round solid to a 2nd round gamble.

 

I could see him getting better, the potential (as you say as well) is there. A very developer player.
