Bortles to get first team reps during regular season

Quote:It's not huge news, but it's good to know they intend to keep him "in touch" with the ones while mostly doing service team stuff. He's always one play away.I agree. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Henne will do fine if the fans get behind him. Once again, the assumption that every rookie QB is Blaine Gabbert.
Quote:Not with the first team. No it doesn't. What it seems like is the coaches want to build chemistry between Bortles and the other 10 starters so whenever he is needed because of injury, he will not be thrown into the fire like Chad Henne was in Oakland. A big reason we lost that game was after Blaine Gabbert got hurt, Henne was totally unprepared and didn't gel at all with the receivers or offensive line. Having Bortles practice with the starters allows our offense to avoid a similar disaster if Henne gets hurt. Quote:Once again, the assumption that every rookie QB is Blaine Gabbert. While that is true, i still think these coaches are doing the right thing. Why risk it? We aren't winning a super bowl this year and everyone knows that. Let's play it smart with our new franchise QB. Man that felt good to say.

Normally "the backup" doesn't get any first team reps during the season at all, because the starter gets all of them. This isn't just about possible injury, it's clear they're thinking about his eventual insertion as starter. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Bradley also said Atlanta might be the last time we see Bortles play this year.. I feel like someone is smoke screening  Yes Bortles could get first team practice reps and sit the whole year but it just seems so unlikely.
Quote:No... I did not say possible injury is the only reason to do it. I am just saying that is an obvious benefit even if he never starts a game this year and could be one of the things a smart coaching staff would think about. It does not clearly mean we plan to start the Blake Bortles era this season. Anyone who says it means that is making an assumption. Now maybe that will happen. But the possibility of that happening is not guaranteed at this point. If we had already planned to change quarterbacks sometime this season Gus Bradley would have said that in a press conference.

I feel like someone is smoke screening Yes Bortles could get first team practice reps and sit the whole year but it just seems so unlikely. Absolutely not. David Caldwell said during the draft he told both quarterbacks Chad Henne is the starter this year. Henne also was told during contract negotiations he will be the starter one year and, regardless of who they pick, the rookie will take over in 2015. Gus Bradley confirmed that is the plan on NFL Network. There is no way you can hear/read all that and think it is smokescreen. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Why would Gus talk about something like that in a press conference? Because he talks about everything including who his starting quarterback is, of course. Why would he not?
Sorry, but the only assumption I had about Gabbert was that he was a horrible pick.
Henne and Bortles will do great in a split quarterback system this year. Also, I would quote, but for something is going wrong on this forum.

I find it hard to believe it will play out that way, given how impressive Bortles was so far.
Quote:Because he talks about everything including who his starting quarterback is, of course. Why would he not? Sure, but why would he talk about the team's long term plan and strategy? When the time comes that they're starting Bortles I'm sure he'll talk about that then, too. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Did he recently say this???Yes he did I think it was posted on NFL.com or something. Quote:Absolutely not. I high doubt Henne plays well enough/stays healthy enough all year to keep Bortles off the field. I bet their is a 90% chance Bortles plays this year. Quote:Yes he did I think it was posted on NFL.com or something. The first time we're getting blown out in the 3rd quarter.
Quote:The first time we're getting blown out in the 3rd quarter. If I had to guess right now, given everything we've seen from Bortles.... I think he'll be in there for good by no later than week 5. I think week 3 makes sense, given the opponent (average D) as well as environment but they might still feel thats too soon. I don't think he'll be in permanently as soon as the first blow out in the 3rd Q since that might happen week 1. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
No reason to give them all to Henne. Everyone knows Bortles is the future and he needs meaningful reps in practice.
Quote:Henne will do fine if the fans get behind him. Henne will need much more than just having the fans behind him to do fine. I can't really agree or disagree with this one. I can see both sides. lol, so you are saying if Bortles is in there, and the opposing teams runs one blitz package, Bortles will just fall apart mentally and the Jags will end up losing the game?? How in the world did you come up with this assumption??
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:Sorry if this has been posted. Didn't see it anywhere: No one "assumed" anything. They listened to what the club said. Tune in Thurs. It might be the last you see of Blake in 2014. If anything, we shouldn't assume anything about limited snaps in practice. Should those snaps increase, only then will it be a story and an apparent sign of a change in plans.
