Waldo Police Department under investigation for ticket quotas
|
Story here.
http://jacksonville.com/breaking-news/20..._source=cx Every time I go to Tampa or Gainesville, im always surprised at the amount of people pulled over despite the 3 warning signs 2 miles out informing people of the speed traps.

Is this some sort of new revelation? It's been a speed trap for years. So much so that there are billboards warning drivers to do the speed limit there and in Lawtey as well.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:I suspect people believe if they are one or two miles over the speed limit they are safe from a ticket. Not with this bunch of Mayberry cops. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:I suspect people believe if they are one or two miles over the speed limit they are safe from a ticket. In 99.5% of the country, they are. In towns that have 12 residents and 11 of them are police officers, like Waldo, Lawtey and Starke, it's not at all unheard of for an officer to lie through their teeth and say you were going five over when, in reality, you were going one or two under. Several towns out here in Colorado, particularly tourist-heavy ski towns, are known for having disproportionately large police forces and an unwritten rule than Colorado resident plates get five over, and out of state or rental plates get pulled over for any possible reason, real or made-up. They've got a quota to fill, and any excuse will do. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I am shocked, completely shocked at this news.

Quote:I suspect people believe if they are one or two miles over the speed limit they are safe from a ticket. Yep, they will pull you over. Funny part is a few years ago, a cop pulled me over for driving 2 miles under the speed limit. I asked him was I impeding traffic flow and is that part of the quota now?, he just walked away.

I think the news part of it is the some of the officers finally admitting that there was a "official" quota system in place which is against Florida Law.

I remember going down to UF for college, riding with a buddy of mine. We got pulled over between the sign that said reduce speed ahead and the lower speed limit. The cop clocked us exceeding the lower speed limit even though we hadn't gotten to that zone yet. My friend talked his way out of a ticket by pointing out that we hadn't even gotten to the sign for the speed limit he said we exceeded. The cop didn't realize which sign he'd set up under, and had to let us go. The look on his face was classic. That was back in the 80s, so it's been a speed trap for decades.

The start of school and game day Saturdays at UF basically have supported that area with all the tickets they give out!!
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

Quote:I suspect people believe if they are one or two miles over the speed limit they are safe from a ticket. Simple question. If you are going one or two miles over the speed limit, are you technically breaking the law as it is written? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:The start of school and game day Saturdays at UF basically have supported that area with all the tickets they give out!!Exactly. I've gone to many a game at BHG, and it never ceases to amaze me that people just don't pay attention to their speed going through that area. When I was in high school we had a caravan of vehicles going down there to play a baseball game at Gainesville Buchholz HS. We were in the team bus, and the parents were riding down with us. We almost got to the bend in Waldo when a local cop waved the entire caravan over and ticketed every vehicle for going 3 over the speed limit. We were late for the start of the game, but the ump actually cut us some slack and had a good laugh when the parents started breaking out their tickets. Needless to say, the caravan was extra careful heading home. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Every time I go down there I always laugh to myself when I see someone speeding past me...cuz you can almost put money on seeing them pulled over up ahead!!

Quote:Simple question. If you are going one or two miles over the speed limit, are you technically breaking the law as it is written? Absolutely. I was just responding to the guy who posted about people getting pulled over when there are signs warning you of the speed trap. I think reasonable people will assume if you're two miles over the limit your safe (you are in most places). Not Waldo and that's why people get pulled over in spite of the warnings. Personally I've never been pulled over there but I was ticketed about 5 years ago in Nassau county for doing 38 in a 35. Paid it too. ![]()
