Anyone Else Starting To Think Lee Might Bust?

Quote:Or if he actually tried to catch the ball with both hands?

That certainly helped him to improve as a receiver. Unfortunately, it happened at the very end.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Antonio Brown is a legit receiver and deep threat with amazing quickness, route running... let's not get crazy here. Lee has yet to prove anything.

Quote:Ya Matt Jones' issue was that he lacked fire. Can you imagine if he actually wanted to run over people and had a passion for the game?

It's scary and sad thought at the same time; most guys would kill to have that kind of ability. If his heart was truly in it, and if he had played receiver at the D1 level you're probably talking about a top 5 pick.

The guy was a gifted athlete. He just wasn't motivated.

I'm not comparing the two as receivers, I'm comparing their athletic ability and how it translates to explosion on a football field.

I feel like they are pretty different types overall. Lee is just unproven.

Brown is more quick and speedy. Lee seems more balanced, bigger.

Quote:Well, I'm not sure about that, but really all that matters is how they play in games on the football field. Antonio Brown has proven time and time again to be a big play guy. Lee's got a ways to go to be mentioned in the same breath as Brown, IMO.

Of course Antonio Brown is the better receiver right now, I'm just talking from a pure athletic standpoint, Lee is definitely the better athlete; I mean the guy was a track star at USC for god's sake haha.

We'll see, Marqise Lee (when healthy) demonstrated some incredible short area quickness and long speed at USC, let's just hope he returns to that form.

Quote:25.5 career YPC in college for Stephen Hill, so no, combine crap is not all I am using for Stephen Hill.
So 1 stat and the rest of your evaluation from the combine.

Your not helping your case.

Was he still the track star last season, or was that pre injury during the season before?

The only combine stuff I care about is maybe his actual height and weight, since the listed sizes on college bio's tend to be not accurate.

You get a receiver with his size and speed and proven big play ability (in college but still - he's only 2 years removed from college and is only 24) , and if you can get him on the cheap, I don't see why you wouldn't want to take a chance and let Sullivan work with him.

Quote:Too many fans and draktniks fall in love with the 40 yard dash, I can see why as it's an accurate measurable for long speed
. However, if you truly want to measure "explosion" look at the vertical (38 inch) and broad jump (10ft 7 inch), that's a true measure of lower body explosion, Marqise Lee is an incredibly explosive football player per those numbers, he doesn't have Desean Jacksons long speed (not too many do) but that's ok, he's explosive in short areas, he demonstrated that at USC. I'd rather have a guy that's explosive in short areas (that's more conducive at the NFL level) than a guy that can occasionally
get behind a secondary purely based off his long speed.

the vert and broad jump are specifically the 2 things i referenced actually.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Right, but that was during his sophomore season, correct?

He wasn't all that impressive last year.

We gotta hope that the injury didn't compromise that short area quickness/ long speed for good.

Yesterdays play was a step in the right direction.

That's his profile at USC, it sounds like the last time he ran track was 2012.

If that's what you were referencing, those numbers should tell you Lee was and is still an incredibly explosive athlete, those numbers are incredible.

I think the knee injury definitely played a factor in his 2013 campaign, I believe it was just a sprain, it'd be different if were recovering from the dreaded microfracture surgery or something like that, he'll be fine.

No motivation whatsoever, if you combine Matt Jones physical abilities with a guy like Allen Hurns's work ethic and drive, you'll have a hall of fame receiver haha.

The lack of motivation flag was there before the draft. All they had to do was talk to his college head coach to find out just how laid back and lacking intensity he was.

Yep, there was definite red flags, its painful looking at that draft and seeing guys like Aaron Rodgers and Roddy White going shortly afterwards, I'm glad the days of egregious draft day mistakes seem to be over.

He had 49 catches his entire career in college and he hasn't had near the YPC in his two years in the NFL as he had in college.

So basically, all you have to fall back on are his combine measurables because those are the only stats that haven't changed for the worse since joining the NFL.
