Are there signs before the drop in speed limits that say "reduced speed ahead"?

There are yes. It doesn't change the fact that they are there to produce revenue and they were doing so illegally. They aren't there for safety. I mean if you are defending having laws set up just to produce revenue from tax payers and no other reason by all means. 5 cops reported their police chief. They thought it was wrong as well.

If they want to take action on the quotas, fine. However, 99.9% of the people ticketed there were in fact speeding. If you sat down there for a day, you would see that people are oblivious to those signs. People have become exponentially more stupid when it comes to driving these days, and you see it everywhere, even in well marked speed traps.

 

People can whine all they want. Don't want a speeding ticket, don't speed. It's that simple.

Well, if there were signs warning to reduce speed ahead then I have no sympathy for the people getting the tickets then.

Exactly. Do the speed limit and you'll roll right through there without adding to their quota. Not that difficult.

We aren't talking about speeding everywhere. We are talking about a specific town that is doing it illegally. A town set up and funded by speeding tickets. Are you all really okay with that? Again, the point of speeding is to protect not to serve as funding for a town and set up solely for that purpose. I'm not complaining about speeding in general and tickets given, I'm speaking about Waldo and what they are doing is illegal. If you are for laws that are pointless, that don't protect in which they are intended and just set up to fund politicians than why don't we just make a law that it is illegal to wear red shirts. I mean, if they make it known that red shirts are illegal to wear than no one should complain right?


And to be clear, this didn't come out because people complained. This came out because 5 police officers did not think it was right. They complained, you know, the ones pulling people over. Are we saying they shouldn't have complained?

I understand the speed limit going from 60 to 45 on JTB once you get close to I-95.  The congestion in the area demands it so people can safely navigate on to I-95. 

 

Now, the ridiculous speed fluctuations on US 301 when you get to towns like Waldo or Lawtey?  When it goes from 65 to 35 in a matter of a couple of miles, that's ridiculous and truly dangerous.  But, it's a revenue generator, so it stays.

You're right. I was actually thinking of 95 and the phantom road work going on. The speed limit is 45 for a long stretch and everybody pretty much ignores it.

Which is no different than 301. Those who are getting cited are actually speeding. A quota doesn't and never will change that fact.

And you are still ignoring the fact that the drastic drop in speed limit isn't for safety. Does that not annoy you at all? That town exists to write speeding tickets. No matter what you say, that isn't what speed limits are for. If it isn't for safety and you are for it to line politicians pockets than we should make up all kinds of silly laws just to write people tickets. Like if you wear a red shirt you should get fined $50.


Another point you keep brushing off or not addressing is the fact that this article is about police officers complaining. Not citizens being written up on tickets.

Good post. It goes deeper than writing speeding tickets. You have to ask yourself why. Why are they asking for a quota illegally and putting up ridiculous speed regulations. When you ask why you start to uncover corruption which is what happened in Hampton.
