Daryl Smith with a nice pick 6 vs. the Texans. Rashean Mathis whiffed badly on an attempted tackle vs. the 'Skins.

I saw that pick 6 too, it was great seeing the look on Shaub's face.
Miss my boy Shean, as bad as he was the last 2 years here, I will always miss him as a Jag. Plus his hair was pretty sweet Quote:Plus his hair was pretty sweet Indeed, it was. ![]()

The year is 2013, rollerjag. And that will never change after I figure out how to recover my password for it.
You guys talk about the pick six like that is all he did. Yes, it was a great play, but don't forget two tackles and a sack/fumble. Quote:The year is 2013, rollerjag. And that will never change after I figure out how to recover my password for it. To be honest, I'm not watching that game 100% of the time, just caught that play on the Red Zone. Good to know Daryl is having a good game, I wish him well.

I was glad Daryl was the guy who scored a pick six, even though I am never happy with Ravens touchdowns against any team.
Quote:Reviving JaguarWomans[fill in the year]' thread. RJ, I recall the missed tackle you are referring to. That was basically the only tackle Rashean missed in 3 games. Even with the long TD he would have given up if CB Aldrick Robinson would have been able to complete the TD reception process and the highly questionable personal foul on Rashean late in today's game, he's exceeded my expectations early in the season on the field. This doesn't even factor in Rashean's tremendous intangibles. Of all of the Jaguars players that ended up with the Lions in the last few seasons, Rashean Mathis is making the greatest positive difference for the Lions. It's possible age will catch up to him over the course of the long season. Especially if Rashean Mathis is needed as an every down player. But for now, he's a much more reliable option at RCB than 2nd Round rookie CB Darius Slay. The latter has great ability but is going through major growing pains. Quote:I saw that pick 6 too, it was great seeing the look on Shaub's face. The TV announcers ( Dick Stockton and Ronde Barber ) made a good point on today's Lions- Redskins telecast when mentioning that it took Rashean Mathis two seasons to overcome the ACL injury he suffered a couple of seasons ago with the Jaguars. Age might have had something to do with the slower recovery, as many players get much more of their pre-ACL ability sooner than Rashean did.
I don't want to bash on Rashean, of course - I liked him when he wore teal - but I think somewhere else like Green Bay or Seattle, he would be limited to nickel back plays. The fact that Detroit won does not mean the Lions are better than the Redskins because Robert Griffin is still recovering from ACL and LCL tears. What if that game was played later in the year, when Griffin's recovery is complete?
Again, I still think Mathis is a decent cornerback and deserves a starting job in Detroit. I just don't want anyone to think he would be a starter on a winning team. What if that game was played later in the year, when Griffin's recovery is complete? The Lions invested a high 2nd Round pick on CB Darius Slay, a player with tremendous natural ability but like many rookies is learning the hard way from savvy veteran QB's and WR's. Having a veteran CB like Rashean Mathis that can come off the bench to replace Slay, like he did in the first 2 games, or start like he did today, is an important component for a team that is a playoff contender. As for RGIII's situation, the bottom line is he played today on every Redskins Offensive play and threw the ball very well much of the day. On the other hand, the Lions were without Reggie Bush, the 2nd best play maker on Offense on the team, only behind Calvin Johnson. Yet, the Lions still won on the road. Believe me, I hope RGIII gets all of his pre-injury skills back and the Lions play the Redskins in the playoffs with Reggie Bush at a relatively healthy state. I'll take my chances. I knew he would be a good addition based on being a great teammate alone, I'm glad he's playing well, too. Nice win for the Lions today.

Whatever Rashean Mathis accomplishes with the Lions, of course he should be most remembered as the best CB in the first 18 seasons of Jacksonville Jaguars history. I think Rashean is deserving of going into the Jaguars team ring of honor. It will be that much more special for Rashean because of his Jacksonville roots. In the meanwhile, I'm thrilled that Rashean is contributing to making the Lions a better team than was the case prior to when he signed with the Lions after the 2nd pre-season game. From what I've seen, Rashad Jennings is having a nice little comeback with the raiders. Nothing earth shattering but he's playing a lot.

Darren McFadden is still the man in Oakland and gets most of the carries when healthy.

That's funny because other than when the Jags played them I've seen the Raiders in passing here and there and I never notice DM. We show less advertisements to registered users. After the season ending torn ACL injury to DT Henry Melton, Nate Collins became a starter for the Bears. With Mel Tucker as the Defensive Coordinator.

Wasn't Nate Collins the huge DT we signed to a one year contract knowing that he couldn't handle being an every down player? Of course the downs he did play he was a force to be reckoned with. Mike Smith signed him after becoming the HC of Atlanta. Nate Collins was a great player to have on your team. He more than filled a niche.

I believe the player you are describing is Grady Jackson, who was a massive run stopper. Nate Collins is a much lighter player, who has very good natural ability. But an off the field incident led to his release by the Jaguars in the winter of 2012. |
