McClendon getting the start at C Sunday

It'll be alright, Henne can take the pain for a few weeks.

Linder at RG is a rookie and probably isn't a significant upgrade over Uche of 2013, but his upside is much higher. Pasztor at RT is injured and replaced by Bradfield, who was horrible at RT when he had the chance to start. Luke at LT can be better than Bradfield, but to be fair Bradfield olayed pretty well at LT last year so I don't think it will be a significant upgrade. Beagles will be better than the LGs of last year. So overall... No, I don't think our offense line as of right now is improved over last year. I actually think it's worse. The caveat is that these guys are younger and have upside, so hopefully in a month they're playing better.

Don't think you made a compelling argument for why the line is worse.
It sounds like you describe it as a wash for now, but with more upside.

Quote:Thats how i see it. I think thats a fair assessment. I do feel like people forget Meester hasn't been good for a few years. When I hear things like "maybe they can talk him out of retirement", it is revisionist history.

The most understated part of Meester's game on this board is ironically the most overstated from all the coaching staffs that have come through Jacksonville; his football IQ. Coaches always raved about how he always knew what was going on, could dissect the plays, and tell the line what they needed to do and where they needed to be. His blocking these past few years wasn't what it was in his early days but it was still better than what McClendon's shown. Now the question is, can McClendon control the line anywhere close to the way Meester did to make up for his blocking deficiencies?
I think Henne's in for a rough couple of weeks. Poor guy.

I hope he figures it out quickly because I didn't see anything from him at C that made me think he'd be a starter. I'm no coach or scout and I'll have to trust them on this one.
This could be ugly, though.

McClendon is awful. No upside, either. We'd be better off just taking the lumps with Bowanko. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
That's great. The worst player from our 75 man roster made the team and is starting...
McClendon is worse than Whimper and Salaam. Why this coaching staff loves him so much is beyond me.
Quote:That's great. The worst player from our 75 man roster made the team and is starting... He's certainly on that level of those 2. Makes more sense to just start Bowanko at this point.
Quote:He's certainly on that level of those 2. What's your breakdown of McClendon's performance last season?
Boselli made a parallel on the radio that made some sense.
McClendon starting over Bowanko is pretty much the same logic as starting Henne over Bortles. He has more experience, knows the calls better, etc.... They should both be starting sooner rather than later.

I'm glad that we decided on an starter at the C position. Now McClendon will take the first team reps and start the jelling process. I'm sort of surprised of the selection because he played very little at the position but the Jaguar staff has the inside scoop to which I Have Faith...

I'm not impressed with any of the Jags coaching regarding the OL, to be quite honest. Its been a very weak area since Bradley took over. (not that it was strong before that either...but it seems to have regressed)
As I read all of the postings enamoring to start Bowanko over McClendon I can't help but to think of agendas. The coaches have made their decision. They're better suited to do so rather than any of us posters. If we support BB5 sitting, why not support McClendon starting?

(not that it was strong before that either...but it seems to have regressed) Since Bradley took over? All one season? And considering the circumstances, the tackle play with Bradfield/Pasztor was pretty good. Rackley sucked, Meester and Uche were done. What did you expect him to do?

What did you expect him to do? I thought Pasztor played well given the circumstances. The run blocking and interior OL was still really bad. Fast forward to this year....and the interior is still really bad and shows no signs of being fixed and the same goes with the run blocking.
