Mallett to the Texans

#41

Quote:you could've got an actual 1st round pick with Gabbert for a 6th round pick, that would've been a steal too, right?

if BOB thought anything of Mallett he would've offered a higher pick months ago so he could've went to camp to compete for a job, this is nothing more than desperation it seems

Exactly.

I don't blame the texans fans for rationalizing the move, but Mallet isn't going to save the day.

Nope.  He'll be Fitzpatrick's backup until he gets hurt.  Then he'll be Savage's backup.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Like I've said before, Mallett was brought in because OB wasn't comfortable having Keenum as his insurance backup. That's all Mallett is right now, no more no less.

If he becomes more that's great, but it's doubtful that happens-he'll probably walk after the season. Savage is still being groomed to eventually take over, or the Texans will draft a QB early next year to compete with Savage.

Thats the part you seem to be missing...I dont expect a good QB this year,if either Savage or Mallett turn out decent great!

If not we have to give up the farm next year for an early pick.

Giving up a seventh in 16 is an easy choice in the Texans position.

If there's a team whose fans know a lot about having a really bad QB situation on their team, it's the Jaguars.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

We have endured some pretty lean years.

I enjoyed this blurb at rotoworld:

Quote:The "compensation" is as close to nothing as the Texans could have sent. Seemingly on the block since the day he arrived in New England in 2011, Mallett has been heavily connected to the Texans since they named former Pats OC Bill O'Brien head coach. Mallett adds more depth to the Texans' uninspiring trio of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Tom Savage, but isn't an obvious upgrade. His acquisition should mean Keenum is sent packing. Despite his inexplicable name recognition, we wouldn't count on Mallett starting any games. He's attempted only four regular-season passes, and has never stood out in exhibition action

Obviously some Homerism here, but he makes some good points.

That article is going beyond homerism. The NFL is QB starved, if he'd shown anything substantial he'd have been picked up already.

It's just like the YouTube videos you can find of every prospect going into the draft. They all look like studs with selective cutting and pasting.

You can cut highlights and say "hey look at Mallett make this throw" as if anybody doubts his arm. He has a cannon but there is so much more that goes into playing the position. I guess it is possible that everybody is wrong about Mallett. But I doubt it.

Exactly. Even a guy like Gabbert can be made to look good with the right selection of plays.

Gabby had how many years to make an impression?

No telling if Mallett has it or not because we really dont have much to go by. But Gabby has proven himself ineffective for years.

I dont expect much from the QB position with the Texans this year and I'm fine with that. The QBs from this years draft are sketchy at best, next years class is way more promising.

I'm fine with waiting rather than reaching.

I doubt a Gabbert NFL highlight reel would last more than a minute, and that's only if you're showing slow motion replays.

Let's not go overboard. He was bad, but you can clip together several minutes of passes that look like good decisions even if they're not highlights.

It's not like the article linked actually showed a bunch of great plays, mostly it showed a bunch of drops that the author thought were good decisions.

Here are 3:53 seconds of Gabbert highlights minus the epic intro.
