Mallett to the Texans

Quote:As with anything else, a value is dictated by the market, i.e., supply and demand.  His value is a future 7th round pic, that's the best the Pats could do.  So no, it's not great value or "pennies on the dollar".  And by "franchise ceiling QB", that label is coming from a fan with very questionable ability to evaluate talent, not GMs, scouts and coaches around the league.

Franchise ceiling QB.  That's such a nebulous statement.  It could also be said that he's a monumental bust floor QB.

Quote:A franchise ceiling QB? Can't say I have heard someone reach like that before.
Isn't just about every QB a "franchise ceiling QB" until such time as they prove otherwise?

I'd say some guys don't have the arm for it. Look at Pennington.

Still I think you're more right than wrong.

The 49ers got a franchise ceiling QB in Gabbert for just a 6th round pick! When it's put that way it makes it sound much better for them than the deal really was.

That's why I said just about every QB.  It was partly tongue in cheek because "franchise ceiling QB" is pretty subjective, and not terribly specific.  But, just about any QB has the potential just as every QB has the same potential to be pedestrian or a bust.

Quote:Like I said, it's funny how the same receivers perform so much better with a different QB, yet it's the receivers fault.

All I can say is your team is going to regret not taking Bortles for a lot of years.

Thats pretty funny. You're ready to call Bortles the second coming of Roger Staubach with such a small sampling when he could very well be a bust.

Yet you want to call Mallett a bust with an even smaller sampling.

While Bortles has looked pretty good so far, I didnt want any of the QBs in this last draft.

I'd rather have a bad season this year and pick up a better QB to go with a D that should be dang near unstoppable.

A smaller sampling?

So, you can call someone a "franchise level QB" based on what they did in college? This argument is dying to have Tebow included.

I just have to point out Mallet has a 5.2 QB rating and has thrown for a total of 17 yards in 3 years. For all of you mathematicians out there, that is 5.66 yards a year as a pro.

The link was broken by the page, but the part that works takes you to the game video page and the one labeled as Bortles is the one you want.

If you want to see what a real exciting young prospect looks at you'll make the effort to look.

If you'd rather not feel bitter you might want to just steer clear.

Hindsight is 20/20.  You are quickly losing your grip on any hope for maintaing integrity with your opinion, er, schtick.

except dalton already is, and tannehill has only played 2 seasons so the jury is still out.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

small sample set? even smaller than bortles? the guys has been in the NFL for years. he has done nothing. he had virtually no value, the patriots could never unload him. every preseason game except for 1 he played in he was below average to terrible.

Whoa, hold your horses there, Mister.

Being paid like a franchise guy doesn't make someone a franchise guy.

Garrard was never a franchise guy but he got paid, too.

No, not "hindsight". How can it be friggin "hindsight" if I never thought any of those QB were franchise level QB even prior to being drafted??

Claiming "hindsight" is so desperate and false.

his play in the regular season has been very very good. the contract didnt even cross my mind, it was all based on play.... but the contract is just another factor that goes into labeling him a franchise qb.
