Justin Blackmon = Stud Wr

Quote:It's funny because Blackmon was a pick that Gene Smith wouldn't usually make. Probably the best pick he made too...
I am pretty sure Gene was overridden for that pick by the 'stache

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Quote:he seems to be playing the slot which really reduces what i planned for ace who is not an outside guy,

looks like it will be shorts and brown outside , blackmon and ace in the slot

still think we need to look for another deep threat but still sensational is the best word possible for Blackmon today bringing in that td would have been a just reward

This is why I felt he reminded me of Andre Reed.

He excels over the middle.

I hope you are right and Tampa wins about 5 games THIS season.

Quote:Also I've been saying how lethal he is in the slot. He has the versatility to play inside and out which is such a weapon in itself. I think we need another weapon at the WR spot and we will be set. I would try and get Denard more involved.
We need a James Lofton/Don Beebe type field stretcher outside, interior OLs, and of course a QB, and the passing game will be just fine.

Another RB and a TE that can threaten the deep seam and the O will be unstoppable.

Sounds good on paper but easier said than done. It took us almost 10 years to find a competent WR and his compliment.

Well with a real QB, to be honest, I think JB will have the same numbers.. Maybe a little better. The new QB will sling the ball to different people around more.

Still awesome tho!!

I agree completely with this.

This shows what can happen if you invest properly in WR and other skill positions, instead of relegating them to afterthought status as Ketchman would have us to do.

so basicly what you are sayin is the only thing this offense has at this point is, well, him... which i completely agree with.

Well, I wouldn't go quite that far.

Joeckel shows promise, and if we can ever keep him healthy, Shorts is good on one side.  So to me, the offense has three building blocks upon which the foundation for eventual contention is being laid.

Another thing I really like about Blackmon was going into his last season at OK State, a lot of people said he wouldn't do much without Dez by his side and there were a few people that said he would be better than Dez. Point is he's putting up better numbers faster than Dez did with a worse qb. Two different reviewers but still nice knowing we could have the better of the two.

Blackmon is a man. Hopefully Shorts can put his injury issues behind him. Ace is questionable. Aside from a QB early, we need 4 o-lineman, another receiver, and a TE. But I think next offseason the focus should be stock-piling OL's to protect our new QB, while we pony up the dough to keep Lewis around one more season and give Ace another season to see if he can fill that slot role.

I agree that a lot of our mid to late round picks should be allocated to interior OL, like this year the picks were allocated towards the secondary.

The strange thing is, even with Joeckel's injury and the trade of Monroe, the OL has actually protected better (and seemingly run more effectively) these last two games than they had all season.

I wonder if that has to anything to do with Blackmon's return and getting a WR that can get open or of the line somehow has more chemistry without Joeckel and Monroe.

Blackmon gets separation and positions himself for the qb to easily put the ball in his hands, and when its not soo easy he fights for it. Super quick and strong hands. Gives the Dos XX guy a run for his money.

Another thing so far is Blackmon is the only receiver on the team with receiving yards that didn't come from garbage time. He's had like 70-80 yards by halftime each game. Shorts racked his 400 up when it didn't matter. Still want to see shorts break 1k tho.

Blackmon is showing me up. He looks worth his draft position right now.

As long as he keeps his nose clean he'll be Gene Smith's best pick.

You had me agreeing with you until you mentioned Denard. I want a real receiver in there with Blackmon and Shorts. Not a former QB with below average hands. Lets find another hidden talent guy like Shorts in the later rounds or maybe a tight end like Antonio Gates/Julius Thomas to compliment them with. Denard is not the answer in my opinion.
