All of these guys had better W-L-T records and better numbers and played in the same era.

Somebody sounds like they missed their ritalin dose today!  The players you mentioned are great players and should probably be in the HOF or at least borderline.  I thought we'd established that stats and wins and losses weren't the soul determination of if a player was over rated or not but maybe I hadn't stressed that strongly enough.  No worries, the original point that Namath was one of the great NFL QBs stands.  He deserves to be in the HOF, if you disagree so strongly with the voters, I suggest you write to them and express your dissatisfaction.  I'll wait.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I believe I understand your argument.

However, history has alot to do with perception as well as hard facts.

If I remember the history of the NFL correctly, it actually began as 2 completely distinct and separate leagues.  The Jets were in the American Football League.

The NFL was considered the penultimate of football, the AFL was considered the red-headed step child.

Namath changed that.  His stats may not be worthy of HOF.  But his swagger and the win the Jets put up in the SB was something that gave all the teams in the AFL a chip in the game.  The Jets, the AFL, and yes Namath, were over-rated compared to the NFL teams and players at that time.  But what Namath did was say, that any given Sunday, the AFL can contend and be legit.

For that reason alone, I believe Namath is not over-rated.  He was the essence of the AFL.  He was the brash upstart that had no fear for the conformity that was the NFL.

Historically speaking, it's actually a pretty great story.  And yes, the story and the player are more than worthy of being in the NFL HOF.

lol, How in the world did this thread go from a "keys to beating the eagles. Week 1" to a man wearing a fur coat on the sideline of an NFL game?

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Chad getting injured first play, Bortles coming in.

Of all the QB's currently in the league, I could actually see JFF wearing this at some point.

Maybe one of those F's stands for fur?

I know I know, off topic.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Hmmm..."casual fan"...now "ritalin?"

Now that we have hopefully exhausted your supply of personal attacks, could you provide any substance to support your argument that Namath is not overrated, other than to say stats, wins, and losses are not determinant of a player being overrated or not?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

So under similar logic, you can argue Jim McMahon should be in the hall of fame.

He didn't have gaudy passing numbers.  He revived a long moribund franchise with swagger and spunkiness and QBed arguably the mast dominant team over a single season to a Super Bowl.  He was as known as much for his off field persona as his on field accomplishments.

Someone tried to provoke TMD into a uniform advantage rant again.   I was just trying to inject some humor.  Now it's a Namath HOF thread. LOL.

Well I have to give you credit here for seeing that I do get provoked on here and when stuff goes off track it is NOT all my fault.

Jim McMahon is a great analogy for Joe Namath. I think there are similarities.

Famous for one game/ guarantee. (oh, and for being a drunken fool)  Otherwise a so-so career.

Hmmmmmm.  You might have had something to do with the 2 pages of Namath debate, LOL.

I was just asking since you got so worked up, sorry if I struck a nerve.  Namath is a HOF player, period, paragraph, voted in by his peers and we've agreed that wins and losses aren't the only factor in determining if a player is overrated or not.  That's my argument.  Since you agree, remind me again what we're arguing about?

If someone else brings up Namath, which they did, the burden of any responses is on them. I didn't bring up Namath.

So it's my fault for posting the pic?  Even though you posted the controversial statement in response?  You can't share a bit of that "burden?"

I mean, I'll take the blame. I thought it was funny.  But..... you know you were sowing some debate seeds with that overrated comment. Accurate or otherwise.  I did like that you didn't get  baited into sideline apparel territory though.

Prayer. Lots of prayer. Maybe a stomach virus hitting the iggles tomorrow morning. Other than that I think it is reality time for many jag fans.

well, in all honesty I just said what was on my mind when I saw that pic. I didn't say it with any intent to stir debate.

The only point I was trying to make was that even though I get blamed all the time, a lot of times its others instigating. Funny, you admitted that, but now you're backing off of it. I guess you don't want to be seen defending me.

Haha.  I was just still enjoying the humor of it all. I wasn't backing off. Just pointing out that my post was meant for comedy while yours steered into controversy.   I don't mind defending you.  I've actually done it several times in the past two weeks to some degree or another.  While I take issue when you bash Jaguar players and coaches "*unfairly" , I don't take part in the needless piling on that occurs after many of your posts.

*in my opinion

Also Chad Henne is in need to be on his A Game! Which is very important!

To answer the original question, the Jags just need to keep feeding the ball to Cecil Shorts. That guy is money!
