Marcus Mariota Vs Teddy Bridgewater
|
I have a good feeling about Mariota, a feeling so strong that I think come draft time he will be neck and neck with Bridgewater as the top QB in the draft. His game is similar to a more polished, tad more athletic Kaepernick coming out of college. Anyone else like the kid? Do you think its just all hype or that he's just a product of the system? Do you think he can be or will be better than Teddy?
Discuss.

I like him fine as the 2nd QB in the draft. Teddy just has the polish already and he has a greater responsibility in his offense as far as playcalling and reading the defense.
LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.
EDIT: Double post. Just enjoy a Blackmon highlight.

Mariota is definitely closing the gap on Teddy B - but, I think the overall consensus is that Bridgewater is still going to be the first QB taken.
Admittedly, I have not followed Oregon completely this season - but, I would like to see more of what Mariota can do with his arm. He seems to have a rifle of an arm and he is obviously incredibly fast for his size. I think he will shoot up the draft boards and definitely put up some amazing numbers in the combine, if he decides to declare for the draft, just due to his athleticism.
I think this will be a topic we hear until May as these will be the top 2 guys. I don't honestly have a preference. I like both.

Just one man's opinion but look at what Prisco says when comparing Bridgewater/Mariota:

I still need to see more from mariotta. A big concern for me is his accuracy. I believe it's around 56% which is very low, especially in a spread offense. I also don't know about how high his football IQ.
There is really nothing in Teddy's game that you can say is a weakness. Teddy is smart, tough, has the size, a leader, accurate, great pocket poise and plays in a pro-style offense. To me teddy is still by far the number 1 overall prospect.

Quote:His comp % was low to start the year but he is over 60% now for the season.Teddy is still over 70% on the year. Mariotta on the other hand hasn't thrown a pick yet.

All I see from Mariota is screens and dump offs. Admittedly, I haven't seen much though.

I know Mariota has the all measurables that we all love. But this is a game that, for the quarterback, is won and lost between the ears. Trust me, you want a qb who comes from a pro style offense. They have a better understanding of what the concepts and what is required of them. Kaepernick has been exposed this season as well as RG3, both of their stats of dropped. Keep in mind that qbs who run the option are football players and can get hit now per NFL clarification. If you don't get Bridgewater, get Murray. But if you think that read-option offense is consistent enough to stay, you are setting yourselves back. What makes bridgewater good is whats between his ears more than anything. Stick with that. You'll benefit sooner and for a more sustained time period.

Teddy is more advanced in every area of quarterbacking except the deep ball. Mariota could close the gap but Teddy will finish the season as pretty much everyones #1 QB.
Although i love Mariota's speed, Bridgewater has a much more polished game overall. He is a true student of the game and if you watch his foot work , poise and what he has in between the ears he is so much better than any other prospect in this draft.
cuz mr. coleman says so
Mariota has the athleticism and is very mobile. But he is more or less a product of that Oregon offense. If I have to choose between Manziel or Mariota, I'm picking Manziel.
Say what you want about Johnny Football, but the dude just doesn't shy from the limelight on the field (and off it). While I'm no Teddy hugger *cough* Vagrantwade *cough*, when it's all said and done, if they are going the QB route, then take Bridgewater. He's the safest and most pro ready of this class. All I see now is mariota this and next to nothing about Bridgewater. It's awesome because I followed him when he was recruited by Oregon and they said how amazing he was going to be. It took a little while but finally everyone is talking about him!
Titansequaltrash aka my mini me. Follows me around like a cute puppy dog.

They are 1 and 1a in my book.
I'm still in favor of Teddy, due to the poise, football intellect, arm talent, and off-the-charts intangibles -- but Mariota is an undeniably breathtaking athlete at the QB position. I actually read a blurb first thing this morning (forgot where) that said Dave Caldwell was very high on Mariota, as he should be. Mariota has that "IT" factor. It's a win-win scenario, in my opinion. I'd be thrilled with either guy. The best part is Teddy is only 20 and Mariota 19. They are this good as such a young age. |
