A 17-0 lead in todays NFL is by no means insurmountable.

Exactly.  That's what I've been saying all afternoon.  I have no idea why Fisch decided to change the plan that got us where we were.  We were play action passing, we were pump faking.  We were taking shots and using creative plays.  

 

It really concerns me about what happened with the OC...  I hope he turns this around.  We don't need an OC that is scared to go for the jugular.

This could be on Gus. 

 

Gus could have given Fisch the order to get more conservative once up 17-0. 

 

Gus is essentially the boss. 

 

Well, that is an alternative theory...  And I can't 100% refute it...  However, Gus is a former D Coordinator.  I would surmise that he allows Fisch alot of leeway in terms of play calls and how to adjust during a game...

 

Unless, prior to the game, Gus told the OC, "Hey Fisch, make sure you shut it down once we go up by 17"   :teehee:

Same goes with the defensive coordinator. If he gives up more than 30 points again, fire the guy and find a guy who can pitch shutouts on a weekly basis. Anybody else sucks.

Yea it seemed like the Sproles run and TD by Maclin were a direct result of poor safety play...those 2 plays cost us the game!

I see the first mistake on that play in the way AluAlu was manhandled at the line 1 on 1.

By the time the offense realized they needed to get rolling again, we were out of sink, and Henne was completely discombobulated.

A 27-0 lead would have changed the way both teams approached things from that point forward. The Eagles scoring a TD at 17-0 makes it 17-7, which is easily still in the game.......had the Eagles first score been at 27-0 they are pretty much likely thinking that its a longshot at best to come back at that point.

I hear what your saying, it's speculation on both sides.  But in a situation like this, I think the OC is the one that's calling the plays and dealing with the personel packages.

 

But you're right, Gus could very well have said, burn some clock, which then was translated by the OC into creating a prevent offense style plan for the rest of the game that got us burned.

 

Again, I hope they learn from this.  The lesson being, you keep your foot on your opponents throat when you have them on the ropes...

Everybody, and I mean everybody, predicted the Jags to lose this game. The only surprise is that they completely dominated the first half. You're just angry they didn't hang on to win.


This rebuild is going to take time and guys like you don't have the sack to reap the fruits of the FO's labor.


I see the big picture and I'm excited about where this is going. Plug BB in there and they're an 8-8 team today. In a couple years, they're challenging Indy for the division title.

Just because I feel the need to critique the OC doesn't make me upset.  I've pointed out alot of positives in other threads.  The D looked like the real deal.  We had great play calling in the beginning of the game, I just wish we would have kept it going instead of taking our foot of the gas.  I'm not calling for anyone's head.  And I have the same attitude towards this season as you.

It's week 1, so a pass should be given.  But yes, this is a pattern I would like to see end. 

 

If Bortles is who we think he is, this might not even be a big deal, because a great QB can make an OK coach look great.  So this may all be a moot point.  But again, it's just something that causes some concern for me.

Dude,  if we were up 27 to 0, the game would have been much different...  The last TD was from a fumble return, right?  So yeah, you can't say things would have turned out the same.
