Gus has to start Bortles now (MERGED)

Quote:Have you seen the teams Brady played on? Dude went to super bowls with mediocre talent on offense, its all about the QB
Brady had an OLine. The Superbowl teams were not "average". Did you see Brady yesterday?

And finally, comparing Brady is like comparing Adrian Peterson to Gerhart..... I dont think Brady, much less Bortles would have done a lot better with what they were given. Like giving a carpenter a plastic hammer to do a job.

Comparing Brady? Sure. How about Manning? We dont have either..on the field or the bench.

Quote:He said he was good in the first half. Not as good in the second. I'm sure there were some throws he'd like to have back. Named a couple of throws that weren't good.  Said that he was efficient and ran the offense. The timeouts were due to young WRs lined up wrong.

The comments debbie-downer is likely referring to were about him being efficient and "we feel good about him."  The kind of stuff that coaches say in order to not publicly bash their players until they've been replaced on the depth chart.  So that's not happening just yet.

5 out of 16 drives with more than 30 yards for the entire game is not efficient. It is dismal. It means the offense didn't move.

If I get an B for the 1st 9.5 weeks in school and an F in the next 9.5 weeks, I don't get a great grade. I get a C-/D grade.

Stop introducing sound logic to your argument. It will get you nowhere here.

Thanks for the breakdown.  I was just telling another poster what was said.  I didn't say it. Gus did.

Of course you'd know that if you read this:

Just accept it for what it is, no coach is going to call a player out in the media.

I'm sure Fisch is letting him know what his mistakes were when it's just Chad and Blake watching film with him.

I wonder how hard Fisch is pushing to get Bortles in the game.

If he's not doing it vocally yet in coaching meetings, he's gotta' be sitting on his hands and gnashing his teeth trying not to blurt it out.

It's a matter of weeks, IMO.  The kid will crack the starting roster before the bye IMO.

So....do you think he should have started or remained the bench to continue his progression to the pro's?

I'll take my chances on Bortles every time.

Not sure what he would have learned on the bench sitting behind Henne. IMO, he got a head start on the inevitable and will only improve. He also has shown the Jaguars blatant need for a new OC.

For starters his footwork is a mess and has been a main culprit in him throwing errant passes and those horrible interceptions. Its hard to work on perfecting the basics of quarterbacking when you also have to prepare for a weekly gameplan and film study. One can argue that more time on the bench could've helped solidify his mechanics and prepared him more as a starter going into week 12 or 13 vs week 3.

One can argue anything. And probably will.

Starting Henne does nobody any good, Bortles ability to extend the play much like he did early on helped the line out, which in turn helped Denard out.  Henne starting keeps the whole team a wet napkin.

TMD Jr, can you stay on topic? This isn't about the OC. You started this trollfest thread, so back up your argument.

I said at the time that I understood why Henne was starting the season and I think he probably should have continue to start for a longer period then he did (we couldn't be much worse) but that I also agreed it was probably quicker to expose Bortles to the fire and have him go through his rookie struggles.  I predicted that many of the people who where so much in favor of him starting would turn on him quick and call him a bust after he'd thrown a few INTs.  As usual, I was right.  With that said, I think getting Bortles in there early will pay dividends in the long run.  The guy shows signs of being an elite QB.  He is shell shocked right now as I expected but he'll over come that.  I have another prediction that I have no doubt will come true but will probably not make people happy.  He's not going to turn into Manning in his second year either.  He'll improve but he'll slowly start to clean up the mistakes and become a "game manager" before he becomes a truly productive quarterback.  I think somewhere in the 3rd year we'll really start to see what he really will be.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

100% agree. My prediction is that I fully expect this "patient" fanbase and MB in particular to declare him a bust before he reaches his third year.

Great, mature assessment hb1148. I can't really say that too often for many other users on this board sadly.

Quarterbacks take time. As do other rookies, which is something you don't seem to understand very well.
