Yeah, because Henne has shown the ability to do any of that consistently in his time here (or anywhere) thus far.  If that's all they want him to do then just put Bortles on the field.

Yawn.  This argument has zero tread left on the tires.  Nobody is expecting Henne to become a top tier QB. 

 

Bortles will take the field when they decide he's ready to do so.  Until then, we should be trying to get the max we can from Henne.

I think it has nothing to do with him being ready - but the pieces around him at least being "solid." Those pieces are not there yet. Seems totally reasonable to me.

I know, I don't quite understand this either. Everyone seems to have a specific timeline for when offensive lines "gel".

It's not a specific timeline. It's just estimation from having watched o-lines on this and other teams over the years change schemes and have roster turnover.  I've been watching the NFL very closely for over twenty-five years - and it's a reality that O-lines take time to begin functioning as a unit - picking up proper assignments and helping each other at the right times.  This is not some fabricated situation. It happens all the time.

As good as Bortles looked in the preseason, the fact remains that he was facing 2nd and 3rd string defenses, and in the final game when he started, there wasn't any real game planning happening out there by the defense.  He wasn't facing a regular season defense that's had a week to prepare to stop him.

I would not describe anything Boselli has said as fawning. He pretty much said Monday night he'd start Bortles but it is not his call.

I think the only people who wouldn't start Bortles yet are Bradley, Caldwell, and a few Jag fans at this point.

 

I don't think that Bradley is making the wrong move -- though I'd love to see Bortles out there on Sunday.  I'm hoping we'll see him start before too long.  And I think we will.  Patience isn't an easy thing to have at this point though.  Especially since it's been 12 years since Brunell.

Apologies if you are offended, but this scenario (an o-line learning to function properly together with blocking assignments/double-teams  etc) is a very common one in football. I assumed you'd witnessed it before.  I see it on at least 2 teams every season. 

This year it's us.  Again. 

 

They were the worst rated o-line in the league last week.  Can we give them a chance to creep up to 27 or so at least?

His point was valid.  Offensive lines take time to come together.  They don't magically hit the ground running.  We still don't have our entire offensive line out there, and we only decided on the starting center last week.  It takes time.

I never said I expect Henne to be a top tier QB.  Henne does not give this team the best chance to win.  Blake Bortles showed better ability in the preseason than Chad Henne should ever hope to have.  It's not Chad's fault, Blake is just naturally better and there's nothing Chad can do to change that.

We've already seen the max we can get from Chad Henne and the fact that the team thinks that's in any way, shape or form good enough is disappointing.  This franchise deserves better and better is already here.

Not sure but on that drive he threw two passes directly into the hands of the defenders, rookie mistakes, and he was lucky they did not intercept one of them. It is possible they are not starting him because not that he is not phys. ready to play but that he does not have a complete grasp or understanding of the complete playbook. We saw that the rookie WR were having problems causing henne to take TO's. Maybe he is ready to play but does not have the full understanding of the full playbook and they would be limited on what plays they could call. I trust the coaches to know when he is ready to go in and not the rabid BB fans.

Nobody is saying Bortles wasn't impressive in his preseason outings.  That still doesn't mean he's ready to go, and the fact that he's not starting would imply that the coaching staff doesn't think he is.  You can keep on whining about it though.  That's really going to change things.

Yeah I get that, but his accuracy under pressure and on the run are something that I would think would translate no matter what. I'm sure he's gonna make a lot of mistakes, whether he plays next week, or not until next year. Sitting him, IMO, will only slow his development.

 

My only argument is they're only sitting him until "he's ready", I just don't buy it.
