Marcus Mariota Vs Teddy Bridgewater
|
Quote: Unless we're getting Harbaugh/ Belichick/ Chip Kelly or another of Oregon's disciples to run a similar offense here/ help develop the QB.....then, no, Mariota won't be a very good consolation prize. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:He had a similar play last year as well against Oregon St where he took off right up the middle untouched. As for the argument for Gabbert, I believe he would have been an effective QB at Oregon absolutely. Guys like Dixon, Thomas and Masoli all put up great numbers and were perennially competitive and Gabbert is better than all 3 of them. Yep, in agreement here.
Quote:As I said before (don't remember if it was this thread or another) but I don't understand how people can say Teddy playing a soft schedule means nothing, but Mariota playing in the offense his coach makes him run means a ton. In both cases there are plenty of opportunities to evaluate pro tools aside from scheme and competition. Both excel. There is certainly a case that can be made, but I've not seen enough to suggest that Mariota can be a day one starter because the offense that he runs is actually a huge detriment to his NFL success. I would strongly advise him to leave after this season, as the longer he stays in Eugene, the more his bad habits will be cemented. He throws off of his backfoot all the time and his footwork and accuracy are sloppy, sloppy. Again, I'm on record saying he is a top 10 pick, but he hasn't shown me enough to give him the keys to the crib Week 1 2014. Best case scenario? He learns behind a veteran and works with a QB guru and is possibly ready to start by the middle of next season. You look at a guy like Teddy and I would bring him in to start tomorrow.

Quote:Yeah, and that was against a garbage Green Bay defense that Kaep similarly shredded in week 1 this season, too. Its a play showing his athleticism which will allow him to pick up yards by running. You keep bringing up the play but no one is saying this one play is the reason they like him. So you never pumped luck up because of his fast 49 time (on par with Newton). Sorry, I don't believe that.

Not once. and please.....that play garnered Mariota many more mouthbreathers on his bandwagon... We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Doubt it but can't prove it one way or another . Dude, I've never been a "combine" guy....I have had many posts throughout the past several years where I make the same argument and bash the combine and how its results sway opinion of moron GM's, and ignorant fans.

Alright. Maybe you're alone but luck was praised for his athleticism. It's not a necessity for a qb to be an athlete but it's a positive.

Not doubting that with all other important QB aspects being equal (pocket presence/ accuracy/ football IQ/ footwork/ delivery/ arm strength/ etc) being equal, as a tiebreaker, I'd then take the QB with more athleticism over the other.... Quote:I agree......Gabbert would have never had that 70 yard run for a TD that Mariota produced the other game.....lolz (as if that play will ever be duplicated on an NFL field) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tRRZwmk-g7s&app=m

Mariota ran straight ahead up the middle and wasn't touched. Never happen in the NFL. Quote:ummmm, not the same kind of play as Mariota's. Mariota ran straight ahead up the middle and wasn't touched. Quote:Again he makes a cut and bounces it outside. You lost this one. Whether a QB "cuts" or not is all semantics at this point. The main point still stands, 70+ yard runs are possible and have happened in the NFL. Btw I like this throwback too. Lol at the Vikings being in all 3 clips. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9O5fXUOAvoY&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D9O5fXUOAvoY

I know TMD mentioned Bridgwater having a bad game and that possibly swaying Dave Caldwell's decision. Hopefully Dave takes a page from the "NFC's scout" book. Quote:He also told me Bridgewater was a more talented and refined version of New York Jets QB Geno Smith. Ouch. Quote:Although I couldn't get a direct player comparison from the scout, he didn't blink when I relayed my comparisons to Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers YES! Alex Smith? That's a big ouch...

Quote:Things I took away from the article: More talented and refined than Geno Smith isn't exactly an insult. Geno was a 2nd round QB, and he's a starter in the league right now. Being a more talented and more refined version of that would equal much better things. Alex Smith wasn't a bad prospect either. Ultimately things didn't wind up going his way, but this is as a prospect goes we're talking about. Not NFL careers.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
