Gators QBs

Anyone saying he's the worst Gator QB ever has no memory of UF before Spurrier arrived as the head coach.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Admittedly Driskel isnt Manning or Brady or anything but he isnt in an offense suited for his ability. He would be much better in an Urban Meyer offense. This isnt just Florida, but too many colleges have coaches that are lazy. And want to instill their offense regardless of the personnel. Driskel isnt a passer but they try to make him one.

Every single pass we make is to the sidelines, we do not utilize the middle of the field whatsoever. It is so aggravating watching this offense. Holy hell.

Quote:Every single pass we make is to the sidelines, we do not utilize the middle of the field whatsoever. It is so aggravating watching this offense. Holy hell. I was thinking the same thing all game, they hardly ever threw the ball more than 7-8 yards or downfield. Everything was to the sideline for a few yards.
What they're doing with Driskel is horrible. He's basically being told not to run or take any licks. This dude is a DUAL THREAT QB, THAT'S WHAT THEY DO! Could you imagine Urban Meyer telling Tebow not to take any hits at all knowing what he did on the ground looking back? Driskel has had some nice runs in the past before all this Kurt Roper shenanigans started.
Not to mention between Treon Harris and Will Grier, one of those two could probably start right now in Driskel's place and put him to shame. I'm still shocked they gave the backup position to Treon Harris since Will Grier is the better of the two, but I think the idea is that Grier redshirts this year so he doesn't waste a year of eligibility then either fights Driskel for the starting job next year or is his backup. Either way, the future looks bright for Gators at QB, it's just a matter of when it will happen. I'd be shocked if Muschamp returns as coach next year. We'll probably lose to Alabama, LSU, GA, and Mizzu this year, leaving us way out of SEC Champ contention as well as playoff contention.

Quote:Anyone saying he's the worst Gator QB ever has no memory of UF before Spurrier arrived as the head coach. That's part of the problem. Anyone that knows the offense that was in Gainesville with Spurrier running the fun n gun offense keeps that in the back of their mind, and you have to wonder if UF will ever see an amazing passing offense like the one they had years ago. I still picture Wuerffel to Anthony/Green/Hilliard every game. It's almost impossible to believe that 2002 was the last time we had a receiver with back to back 100+ yard receiving games. Unless that start they threw up on the screen was wrong.

I don't care what driskels record is. I watch him play and he's just awful. The team wins in spite of him.

Everyone says Driskel is this elite dual threat QB but every time I see him run he looks clueless and slow
Quote:Everyone says Driskel is this elite dual threat QB but every time I see him run he looks clueless and slow You haven't seen him "run" in quite some time. He used to actually run hard and for a first down... he's been directed to slide at the nearest sight of an opposing jersey. Why, I have no idea. This isn't the NFL, and Driskel will never make it in the NFL, so now is his time to shine, and he's throwing it away. Maybe he's being threatened to be benched, I don't know. But under his recent offensive coordinators, he's been much more mobile. Not as mobile as Tebow, but way more so than now. They're making him look like a 100% pocket passer, and that's the complete opposite of what he is. It's ridiculous.

Driskel reminds me a lot of Blaine Gabbert; all of the physical tools and none of the actual talent. He wildly overthrew his only three long passes Saturday. No wonder the Gators OC had him throwing nothing but short stuff in the second half.
Meanwhile, Tyler Murphy just led BC to a major upset of USC. The Gator coaches seem clueless in evaluating QBs. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"

He may have run hard and didn't slide short of a first down in the past, but he never looked like natural runner. He has speed but no moves. No wonder the Gators OC had him throwing nothing but short stuff in the second half. Nobody in this world is upset over losing Tyler Murphy to Driskel LOL... Same with Jacoby Brissett.. between the three, none are special. Will Grier will be the real deal. The problem is when the coaching staff let him play. It won't be this year and this is what makes me mad. We only have 2 years left with Kelvin Taylor, and if we waste them both with terrible QB play because Muschamp doesn't want to start the better QB to let Kelvin show what he has, then it's going to just waste everyones time. I don't know if Kelvin will be as good as Fred, but he's definitely showing flashes of Freddie T so far even though he doesnt get much play time to junior crappy Matt Jones...

Quote:Nobody in this world is upset over losing Tyler Murphy to Driskel LOL... I don't think Jones is crappy at all. He's a hard runner with a Marion Barber type running style. He's a good blocker too. He wouldn't be as effective in the NFL with the 5ypc and all that but he's a really good guy to split reps with kelvin right now. I hope they do the right thing and start Grier next year then... I'm gonna have to find some of his old games.

Quote:Hey Trav, how you feeling about our bet?Still feeling good. I will though say that my confidence sunk, just a little. Still to early in the season to tell what Saturday's night game meant. We may find out that Kentucky is a pretty dang good team who will really surpirse some people. Time will tell. I think a 3-0 Gator team would be ranked right now to be honest, but that could of been short lived following this weekend. Kentucky's skill players really impressed. That combined with a couple breakdowns on the back end of the defense really hurt. Being Florida's first real game and running more coverages, and mixed coverages caused some mental errors there. Fix that, and things look a lot better on defense.

I'd be worried about Driskel. You get pressure on that guy and he will make mistakes. You'd be unranked to after your game against Alabama this week so really it doesn't matter. You think they'd be ranked after beating Idaho, Eastern Michigan, and Kentucky? |
