Once Bortles is in the game you'll likely find out this is incorrect, and that guys can get open on a regular basis once they believe the ball can actually come their way.

I did not say it was all Henne"s fault but no one in the media or any one else believes he is a starting quarterback. He is not even a good backup quarterback in my opinion. The offense under Henne fails to put up points.  There's a lot more to that than just Henne, right?  We've got zero running game right now.  The line is hardly doing an effective job of blocking for the run or pass currently.  The inexperience of the receivers has to be taken into account, and has been pointed out by the coach as being an issue.  Henne deserves more than his fair share of the blame, and nobody thinks he's going to suddenly elevate his game to a level where he's anything more than what he is today, but he is not the sole reason why this offense has struggled.

Bottom line is...

We are sick of accepting mediocrity... and that's what Chad Henne is.

 

Blake Bortles is going to be a Superstar in this league.. let him play now. Give the fans something to be excited for. SOMETHING.

 

I guess my question is... do YOU (I don't care what the coaches say or think) think that Chad Henne gives us the best chance to win. Don't give me some garbage about the Oline not being ready.. that doesn't matter because Blake Bortles is bigger and stronger than Chad Henne... do you HONESTLY think Chad Henne gives us a better chance to win than Blake Bortles?

 

To answer your question, I don't know at this point.

 

Long term, Henne absolutely does NOT give us the better chance to win between he and Bortles.  Bortles is bigger, faster, has a strong, accurate arm and an aggressive approach to QBing thus far.

 

In the immediate term, however, I am not sure because I am not sure what his command of the offense is at this point.  If he cannot consistently identify the Mike, or there are some protections he misses, or plays he still has not mastered, then it is legitimate to question whether he gives the team the best chance to win.

 

We have seen in the defense the disastrous results that can come from not knowing the playbook and blowing assignments.  I can only imagine that effect being magnified if we put a QB out there who is prone to do the same thing-ignoring the things opposing defenses do to confuse QBs.

 

It would also send a message to the rest of the team that if the QB-the leader of the team-can be sent out by coaches obviously unprepared-then anybody at a "lesser" position can safely go out unprepared.

 

I don't think it will be long before Bortles is in the lineup, and I think over time, we the fans will be pleased with the results.

 

But even if he is better than Henne now (not a stretch), I don't think we as fans have enough information to definitively say he is ready to start.

So you're not part of that crowd that is now after Caldwell.  Good.  But, those yahoos still exist, and they will no doubt be in a quandary over how to deal with Bortles if he comes in and does well.  If he struggles, they'll use that as an indictment of Caldwell, and eventually they'll label him a bust.  It's what they do, and they will do it early and often if that happens.  They don't know any better.

I can not accept losing with Henne while our future quarterback sits no the bench getting no game experience and delaying the development of Blake.  The quarterback is the most important position on the field and because he showed in preseason his is capable of playing in adverse conditions, has better skills and can extend plays with his feet while throwing accurate passes on the run benching him is not helping this team for the future.

I don't agree that the team is in tank mode.  That would imply there's something intentional happening  here, and for that to be the case, they wouldn't have gone out and invested as heavily as they did in the defense this off season only to see the unit struggle now.  No owner would tolerate that. 

 

I think what people need to recognize is that it's still a very young team, and that there are going to be struggles early as they continue to mature and develop as NFL players.  By the time we get to the bye week and beyond, we'll hopefully be seeing a completely different brand of football.  To say they're tanking at this point is just nonsense.

That's not true.  Read Objective's posts in this thread.  He'll inspire the entire team to up their game merely by being on the field.

 

I do see Bortles as the better of the 2 QBs, but there's clearly a reason they don't want to subject him to the beatings he'd undoubtedly take behind the current line. You're missing a starter, and you've got revolving doors at the RG and C positions right now.  That's not good.

Winning is the goal, but really the Jaguars still have a rung to go up the ladder before they get there.

 

First comes the goal of not getting utterly destroyed by other bottom feeding teams of the league.

 

Once the Jaguars can actually run with the texans and titans and browns and skins of the league then attention can be turned to the next rung of getting better, actually winning.

This year is a throw away year if they keep Henne in there.  Nothing against Henne, but since he's not the future, it doesn't matter what he does this year.  Unless we get Bortles experience, we throw this year away.
