It's Not All On The OL..Keep Telling You Guys

Quote:You're comparing Bortles to Henne. Bortles has more *ability* than Henne. He's more athletically gifted and seems to have the *it* factor you need in a franchise QB. You're confusing ability with toughness.

Toughness is part of it. Toughness is all mental, it's not physical. It's the mental part of Bortles that is the "it" factor. It's why Gabbert didn't have the "it" factor in spite of his measurable athletic ability.

Henne isn't a tough player, he's just a player.

I hope to see more out of Toby Gerhart in this week's matchup..  I dont care if he does have a bad average this week to as long as he at least breaks open one big run for 20 yards... show us something..

get him more involved in screen passes or shot passes to the side... pitches.. something...

It wont happen until our guys learn how to block.  Hopefully the coaches swallow their pride and make some changes in the scheme.  It seems like a complicated running scheme for guys who have no clue how to run it.

We just disagree here. He's plenty tough mentally and physically, and he showed that last year having to go in and out of the lineup under difficult circumstances and the team managed to go 4-4 over the last 8 games. Unfortunately, he's just pretty limited athletically.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Quote:Alfie does a good job of breaking down most of the rushing attempts and why they didn't work, but it will be dismissed because it's Alfie doing it.

WHat does this last part mean? No one has dogged dude for his analysis. Everyone is accepting it and appreciating it. WHy are you so negative to the posters on this bord FBT? Its ok to let it out.

I don't think he is taking a shot at Alfie, I do believe that many folks disregard what Alfie has to say and that is wrong. He has gained a lot of experience and insight followed by the occasional mental malfunction, but heck that happens to me daily if not hourly.

Alfie set out to be a sports reporter and has not waivered, the Alfie we see today is not the Alfie of 5 years ago.

We were all wet behind the ears at one time, if your Uncle is a legend in his own mind ( I love to take swipes at Prisco) thats ok. When your first start out and you act like your Uncle without the chops to back it up and doggedly defend undefensible positions, you will get taken down a notch. There is a history here that I have witnessed first hand.

I don't believe that this was a shot at Alfie and his article was "spot on"

The team is going through more growing pains at the moment, just like last year. It will get better.

Maybe you didn't understand my point.  I wasn't being critical of Alfie at all.  I thought it was a good article with good insight.  My point is that there are some here who immediately pounce on anything he puts out and dismiss it because he's the one who wrote it.  That's not my position at all.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I was actually saying that why be so quick to judge us on how we will receive Alfie's piece? Then I did remember Alfie years ago and how quick trigger the board was to condemn him into intellectual football hell. lol. But my apologies if I took something out of text or was taken out of text.

Either way, good job Alfie.

Quote:Marcedes has actually struggled blocking for a while now, he was never a dominant blocker to begin with.
The funny thing is blocking and toughness were two questions for him coming out of college.

Over the years, he became known as a dominant blocker.

It sure didn't show on that play.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Have you been around here for more than a week?  Seriously, Alfie gets dismissed by a group of posters on this board on just about anything he puts out there.

Well, his form was good other than he completely ran by the guy he was supposed to block.

I don't think anyone questioned his pulling ability.   It's the finishing with a block thing that didn't go so well on that play.  Laughing

Quote:You're giving Henne way too much credit saying it was a timing route. It was a set play, but to call it a timing route is wrong. No. It's a timing route.

Timing route means both the WR and the QB are just going on a rhythm inside of their own head. QB takes the snap, starts his drop, throws the pass immediately following his third step to a spot on the field where the WR is supposed to be going. You're making up definitions again. Stop.

The first long TD pass would have been something more like a timing route if it had been the simple out play instead of the double move. That's the one I was talking about. There was no double move. He planted his left foot to the outside but cut inside off of that plant immediately.  The ball was in the air before he planted and cut.

Of course it's really pretty pointless to argue anyway, then don't.

Of course it's really pretty pointless to argue anyway, the pass was very poorly thrown and if there had been a good CB covering Hurns on the play it probably would have gone for an INT.

Yes, that's the timing route I am talking about. The QB throws it to a spot before the receiver is even there yet, and the receiver runs to the spot and catches the ball.

When done correctly, it's indefensible.

I know they won't work all the time and the timing will be off sometimes, but I just can't recall Henne completing a timing patten.

I've seen him throw them before, but they just aren't completed passes.

Either Henne is off on the pass or the receiver is off on the route, it's one of the 2.

I see other teams complete them all the time, esp on 2nd or 3rd and 5 or 6 yds or so.

Unfortunately, the Jags just can't complete them, for some reason.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

I agree, that was really good analysis by Alfie.

Great breakdown, you just can't see that by watching the TV or even being at the game.

Was that Joeckel getting spun like a top on that one play? YIKES!!!!!!

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
