It was a lot more vodka than tonic, I would've rather had the White Russian!

What's on the menu tonight?

I'm having bourbon on ice with a splash of ginger ale at the moment.

You area braver soul than I my friend.

By the way, I think we should all have a booze thread meet up at a game at the 'Bank sometime. Specifically for us "Out of Towners". Who's in?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I'm technically 'out if town' in St. Johns County.

Can I play?

I'd be disappointed if I got there and DIDN'T meet somebody for a drink.

As long as you bring your "friends" with the tilted kilts.

I'm in.   ^

------------------------------

And I have a cheap bourbon review to add to the thread.   I typically try to stick to "the good stuff." However… an unexpected $1200 brake job and about $2000 in vet bills over the last month have me finding a few budget options to keep around until expenditures level out again.

So, I've switched from Ketel One or Belvedere to Tito's vodka and have been trying some whiskey alternatives.  I'll often shift down to George Dickel 12 and even Dickel 8 which is about $20 for a 750ml  - but they can be hard to find in my hood.  (I normally stock Bulleit,Basil Hayden, Michter's and the like - but they can be triple the cost or more)

I've done the "Old Crow Reserve" before - which is about $12 per 750ml - but it can be a little punishing the next day.

While in Kentucky earlier this summer I got to sample some different whiskies from Evan Williams.  Their "good stuff" was quite nice, so when I saw their cheap stuff at the local shop - I went for it.  $12 per 750ml  --  It's definitely a decent to good affordable bourbon.  A smooth sour mash bourbon that's sweet but not offensively so.  It's sippable neat and great with Ginger Beer and a dash of bitters over ice.

That's incredible.  Can we petition the Jags to hire you as a consultant/mentor to Justin Blackmon?

Got a little bit to catch up on here:

Had the Balvenie 12 year Doublewood Scotch. Probably the smoothest Scotch I have tried. The "doublewood" means that it is aged in two different casks (barrels). The first six years is in a traditional used Whisky barrel and the next six are in a Sherry barrel. Kinda pricey, but really worth it.

Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit Rye. The bourbon is good, but I think I prefer the rye which is odd for me. The Rye was smoother and just had a better taste.

Ayinger Dopplebock. For the dark beer crowd, it's a nice beer with full flavor. Great for the colder weather.

As for our get together, pretty sure I'm going to be in town for the Thursday Night game. Who's in for swapping lies?
