Quote:Exactly. I fully expect Bortles to develop. I just think this blood lust to declare him a finished product by some on this board just because he played today is a little over the top. There's a lot of developing to do. Good first step, but let's not oversell it. I think if he can match Luck's rookie stats this season we should be very excited for what lies ahead. Luck's stats were far from spectacular IIRC, but I think that's the measuring stick

Didn't notice any blatantly terrible snaps which is more than can be said for the last few weeks.

He graded out at +1.2 on PFF for what it's worth
I only noticed one play with a free rusher up the middle but I'm not sure if that was Bowanko's fault or not.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Quote:Protection will look a lot better with Bortles. He has Rothlisberger pocket presence I don't get this. Ben has been hit so many times he is already a shell of his former self and not even old in QB terms yet. I don't think Jags fans want their future holding the ball to make a play te way Ben does. Quote:He graded out at +1.2 on PFF for what it's worth He passed the eye test, too. In the second half, you could see him road-grading in front of Gerhart. I'm going to rematch the second half tonight to focus on the pass-blocking, but he didn't appear to make any glaring mistakes from where I was sitting. Ben and Blake bear a slight resemblance in frame size and some escapability, but Blake looks to have a faster release and faster straight line speed over Ben. We still have no idea on so many other key qb functions like read progressions, audibles, throwing lanes, touch passing, this linking of two qb's with so little NFL tape on Bortles is ridiculous. One person said it and it sounded insightful, now people are really going over the top linking the game of Blake and Ben.Basically they are both big,can run,and have lively arms.So did Dan Fouts and Terry Bradshaw, butI never hear comparisons with those two. Blake has his own game and I wish Jax fans would remove him from Rothlisberger's shadow by eliminating that reference before it becomes cemented in hype.
Bowanko looked decent but this was not the hardest test. Those are to come. He seems to have a tendency to come up too fast, get off balance and is susceptible to being pushed back after losing leverage. But like the qb whose hands are on his rear, they will learn together. It looks like Bowanko to Bortles could be a solid tandem with much more work.it will be interesting when we finally get our RT back and healthy how good this lineup will grade.

I could have just missed it, but I sure as hell haven't seen it.

Quote:I think if he can match Luck's rookie stats this season we should be very excited for what lies ahead. Luck's stats were far from spectacular IIRC, but I think that's the measuring stick Luck put up more than 4300 yards passing and 23 touchdowns on 18 interceptions as a rookie. 2 of those would be near franchise records for the Jaguars. I think that's a pretty high bar to set for a guy who is starting his first game in week 4. I think it's realistic to expect Bortles to put up relatively decent stats, but I'm not sure Andrew Luck is the bar we should be establishing for him. Quote:I don't recall anyone declaring he's a "finished product". I could have just missed it, but I sure as hell haven't seen it. Perhaps the wording wasn't exactly perfect, but there are those including some of you who have been saying Bortles has been ready since the start of the season. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I think that's a pretty high bar to set for a guy who is starting his first game in week 4.Ready to start since preseason? If that's what you are saying, then yes, he has been ready to start since the end of the preseason. You could see it in the preseason that he was the better quarterback of the two. He gave us a better chance to win than Henne has all season.

Quote:Pasztor should theoretically be starting this week right? I think so, they said 4 weeks but he's still in the club cast. I thought Young did much better than Bradfield yesterday (granted it was lesser competition), so that was a positive trend “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Quote: I think the opinion was that Bortles was a lot better than Henne at the start of the season. Bortles is still a work in progress. Everyone here understands that. But even in limited snaps he's made plays that Henne (or any other Jags QB since Brunell was injured) could never make. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" Quote:I think if he can match Luck's rookie stats this season we should be very excited for what lies ahead.
