How Will Bortles Survive Behind This Line!

#81

Quote:What was wrong? Has he developed or not? Does he look exactly the same as he did on, say, his pro day? Apparently so in your eyes. Because, in order for me to be wrong, that would have to be the case.

So you need to go back to his pro day to defend your position! Interesting you didn't address preseason! But whatever makes you right.

You supported the decision to not start Bortles today, correct?

Although it cant be proven with absolute certainty, Bortles obviously has shown that he didnt need to sit out the first half of this game today.

Understanding the decision is different from supporting it. You get that, right?

Can someone please explain to me what damage was done by Bortles not starting this game? Seriously, what are people expecting this year, especially early on.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Did he progress or not? It's a simple question that you refuse to answer for some reason.

You realize we are in a discussion with a man who's ego prevents him from being wrong.

Quote:Keep in mind BB will get to game plan specifically for him as well.  It is a bit of an offset in the game play.

That said I'm not going to make believe he didn't throw a pick six.  The DB read the play and baited him.  Those are teachable moments.  He should have the football IQ to improve.  That is the nice part of it all.  He has upside.  It is going to be a process.

As I've said repeatedly, he's going to make mistakes. How he responds is what matters.

What damage would have been done if he started the game?

No seriously.

Quote:I'm torn because I really don't feel Bortles is stepping into a stable situation. Rookie wideouts and linemen.

But it is nice to see this next era in our franchise unfold.

Don't be torn.  Let the PLAYER play, my brother.  If he can't hack it, we will know soon enough.  From what we saw in the 2nd half, he's more than capable.  I just hope Fish figures out how to actually coach a gamer like BB5.  If not, we'll be looking for a new OC soon...

Quote:He's not stepping into a stable situation, and there should be genuine concern. It's going to be ugly, but it will be a good test to see what we have in Bortles. If he lives up to expectations, great. If he doesn't, the luminaries who dismiss the concerns wil simply declare him a bust.

Oh NO!!!!!  We took a franchise QB and are playing with poop house players around him!  If he can't hack it, what have we lost?  This team blows.  The O-Line blows.  Shorts stinks to high heaven.  Gerhart is a joke.   We might as well figure this all out now instead of next year.

I, for one, see BB5 as being legit.

I'm not gonna wring my hands worrying about the personnel around him.  He's gonna have to figure it out.  LEARN BY DOING. That's the best way to do it.  This is a pass fail league.  Once you are up to speed, you need to take the test.

It's time for Bortles to do this.

He's ready.  He's so ready that I think we could have made this game much closer if he started....

The damage is that we got blown out...  Do you remember the score at halftime?

So, sitting the better players and "playing for the future" when you're 0-0 or 0-2 is reasonable. Call for doing the same for a better draft pick when you're 0-8 and it's all "you play to win the game".

They had a top 10 rushing offense in 4 of his first 5 seasons in the league.

Sorry FBT, but the thing is you are the figurehead of the entire MB that was scoffing at the people that were wanting to get BB5 into the game...

It's not a personal attack on you, so I hope you don't take it that way...

But at the end of the day, it's clear that BB5 should have been starting ASAP.  He covers the poor coaching and the poor talent on this team.  He's just that good.

Yeah, he'll gonna throw INTs, he's gonna also throw TDs.  He's our best option of being competitive.

The coaches should have realized that alot sooner than they did.  With that said, I'm not fully comfortable with them.  But I'll give them a pass for now, and hope they figure out the best way to utilize this QB.  BB5 could very well be the best QB in the league in 3 years, if these coaches are worth their salt...

If he didn't you could always go back to his high school team! I really can't agree with your position unless I missed a game he played in at his pro day

He is starting ASAP. Even those of us who understood the approach the team was taking fully expected him to start by the bye week at the latest. I was expecting him to take over by Pittsburgh. That's pretty much ASAP based on his development.

They had to play Bortles. The apathy this fan base is showing is very concerning (but very justified).

Caldwell and Gus have failed to field an NFL caliber team. Playing Bortles is literally the only exciting thing they have going for themselves.

To put it simply this coaching staff is inept.  Anyone who does not see that is really blind.

Yeah, and they had a pretty good WR corps, and they had an aggressive play calling offensive philosophy...  So?

If they had a horrible QB they wouldn't have been as successful...  I hate even saying that because I think Rothlesburger is a middle of the road QB, but he's better than Henne.  And I think BB5 is light years ahead of Rothlesburger.

WE got a gamer here.  We are about to see some serious progress in our offense.  Now if only Fish would figure out how to use Denard and Gerhart, we might just have an unstoppable air and ground game.

With an offense I forsee, the D is gonna be pinning their ears back and punking QB's the way we got punked in Washington....

Bortles will survive behind this line a lot better than Henne.. Bortles has tread on the tires and quicker judgement..

Quote:What I find funny is the fact that nobody here is a Henne defender, yet the accusations of such continue.

Btw, if you're going to try sounding high minded, it's deny.

I'm seriously concerned about reading comprehension on this board.
The thread:  "The Plan": Coaching vs Management,  p.15, post # 288

The words: "I think people clamoring for Bortles to start should take a deep breath and let the process play itself out."

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.
