Poz - "We're a zone coverage team"

Looked like JDR's zone defense out there.

Quote:No pass rush equals no pass defense. It's as simple as that. Luck could have taken a nap in the pocket today.
Agreed.  The secondary looked a heck of a lot better in the first half of the first game when we actually had a pass rush.  I'm not sure what happened there for the last 10 quarters, but it hasn't been pretty.  If they don't get the line back on track, the secondary is going to continue to struggle.

BTW, Hicken is saying the Jags are actually the league leaders in sacks so far this year, but it sure doesn't feel or look that way considering how much time opposing QBs have had to pick us apart.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

And hear i thought we were a man coverage team. No wonder there are so many wide open guys. I think this is causing the confusion and simplifying to a more man coverage scheme may in my opinion make things easier because everyone will know who they're responsible for. Thoughts?
They have to be the DBs arent good enough to play man to man....

the team is lacking talent ... hopefully next years draft gets us a star CB or FS.

"Coverage" would be an overstatment, Poz.

I really think the overall effort for a lot of the players on defense dropped. Its hard to go out there and give 100 when you know that no matter how good you play, you've got henne running the offense. (Or something similar.)

I've been around the game for a lot of years and it really is tough to do, more so for some players than others.

Zone - slow team

Defensive team that is..

The Seattle Seahawks play a bunch of cover 3 and are arguably the fastest team in the league, especially at linebacker; they also rush the QB very well. The Jaguars are going to struggle with man and zone concepts because they don't consistently affect the passer, you don't have to sack or even hit him every drop back but you have to get guys off their spot, we don't do that. This is simply a bad defense, it needs a complete overhaul.

Agree.  There was one play where the Colts ran a crosser.  Im assuming the OLB Telvin had flat responsibility.  Because nobody was in the flat to begin with, he drops way back even behind Poz and the crosser comes wide open.

I believe because he can use his speed to play man, we should have some zone and some man.

If you're going to be a great zone team like Seattle or the great Buccaneer defenses of the early 2000's, you better have the athleticism and discipline it requires to play it effectively.

Caldwell needs to sign Rhonde Barber, Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, John Lynch.

Speed was never his strong point anyway. He's more suited to a role as a 2 down linebacker. I think we need better play overall from that position group.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Ugh, I hate zone coverage. It's no wonder we can't stop the TEs.. It's so easy to find holes in the zone coverage behind the LBs. To be effective at running zone coverage, you've got to get pressure on every play. We don't have any elite pass rushers who can regularly win 1 on 1 matchups.
10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.
