Quote:Our problems are not really on the safeties. The corners are playing too far off and the front 7 are not stopping anyone so the safeties are cheating up to help stop the run.

Agreed but again when Caldwell came in we cut the ENTIRE secondary.

To his defense it was an old Mathis off an ACL injury and a Derek Cox who can't make a team anymore as our starters he cut.

fwiw PFF has him with 7 missed tackles, the most on the team, as well as a poor coverage grade and some penalties. Regardless of the stats it's easy to see that he has been playing poorly.

Lageman mentioned that he seems to be confused more often than not when the defense breaks the huddle. Mentioned him doing this a lot on tape ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Quote:That's the word on the street. Guy out, Sherrod Martin in.

Stay tuned.
That would suprise me due to the int for a td during preseason (fancy footwork) and the sack, he's done some good things along with the bad... i dont know if cutting him would be the best measure he could be used as depth for a backup....

Seattle South -- probably striking a deal for Kam Chancellor and had to make room on the roster.

Quote:Lowery and Landry where perfectly fine options at FS and SS, the mess in the secondary is all on Caldwell.
this isnt 2011

And Caldwell kept Lowery. He was the start last year until he got hurt again.

Landry was awful and overpaid.

Landry and Lowrey were a good combo. Lowrey was a nice surprise. Landry was decent in run support, but this was the year when we had a top five defense. Wasn't it top 5 or 10?

Winston Guy knows how to knock someone out, and I like that about him. He needs to work on his coverage and tackling though, he always seems to hit and not wrap up or be 10 feet away from a receiver.

2015?

Yep.  ^

We're back to Evans at FS and Cyp at SS.  I hope Evans supposed improved understanding of the scheme starts to show up on the field this week.

He made a few plays at SS while Cyp was hurt. (bungle a few as well)  Hopefully he can show something this week at FS.

I guess we'll see Martin out there if not?

We did win 4 games last year with Evans at FS.  Evans wasnt very good last year but he was better than anything we have had this year at FS.  His little play this year looks like he has improved some but we will find out when he starts.
