justin blackmon

In my head im envisioning a Monday night game next year against the Colts. Jags and Colts are both 8-3. They keep talking about Bortles and Luck but then they do a segment on Blackmon and how he turned his life around. How he went from a guy with a problem to leading the NFL in receiving yards.

This.Would.Be.Awesome

If all these guys turned out to be studs besides ace because that won't happen he'll be average at best I think blackmon should be the one traded or let go. Why risk giving up hurns lee or robinson if they are studs over a guy that could very possibly screw the whole team over again? I say if blackmon comes back and all our receivers are playing very well, trade blackmon in a year or two for a first or second rounder

First off, if/when Blackmon comes back, and he gets back into game shape, he'll be the best receiver on the field any time this team plays a game.  The team isn't going to invest as much energy as they have into getting him back on the field only to trade or release him.

From the perspective of what he would garner in trade, there's no team in the league that would offer anything remotely close to what you're suggesting for the very reason you want to trade him away.  They won't want to take the risk.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Going off talent the receiver hierarchy on this team should be Blackmon -> Lee -> Robinson -> Shorts -> Hurns.

I don't have much hope for him returning to football. I do wish him the best with his struggles and I'm happy to hear that he is seeking help.

Blackmon will rise again...  The NFL will make special arrangement for players with his freakish ability... ::cough cough:: ::peyton manning::

Exactly. The Jags already risked the 5th overall pick him Blackmon, only to watch him spin out of control. No other GM in his right mind would even roll the dice even if he becomes fully reinstated. I see maybe a team dishing out a 3rd and 5th rounder at most, but Caldwell knows Blackmon can be a luxury that is far more valuable than anything that could come from a 3rd or 5th round pick. If he plays again, he plays for the Jags and he plays lights out. Caldwell would be dumb to think any other way.

Blackmon has the ability to be the best WR in the NFL, if we get him back with Bortles wow the offense would be great, draft Gurley get some more big uglies

There's a lot more to the Blackmon story than what is being reported in the media that shows the level of commitment this team has to not only getting him back on the field as quickly as possible, but in helping him address his demons.  I seriously doubt that with everything they've done to help this kid that they'd dump him once he's eligible to return.  They see the talent there and they know that this is ultimately a good kid who has serious issues he's dealing with.  Hopefully he is able to get his life back on track.

I'm not sure if this was posted here, but I only just saw it.

*edit: not much info there, and since it came from Gus to the AP, it's likely somebody else already noted it.  But this is a long thread, and I hadn't see it.  Good to hear anyway.

From what I understand, Gus actually pulled Mark Long aside to talk to him about Blackmon's progress on the record.  Gus has a very vested interest in Justin getting his life back on track.  I don't think he really cares one way or the other about whether he makes it back on the field at this point.  He just wants Justin to get control over his demons.

All I know is when we heard he got busted again recently, Khan said he is still on the roster. Now we have found out he is half way through a 90 program. Looks like to me the stache knew something we didnt.

I really don't know, but it seems like he wouldn't be.  He's not in the NFL right now, right?  I would expect that stuff would resume once he's applying for reinstatement.

He's suspended.  That doesn't mean he's not in the NFL right now.  He's still a player under contract to an NFL franchise, and a member of the NFLPA.  If he retires, the tests will stop.  Otherwise, he's subject to random tests.

Stay away High Score. You'll jinx our feel good optimism.

This is good news if for no other reason than it sounds like he is trying to get his non-football life in order.

I'll remain skeptical until I see him on the field, but I won't crash the party today. We all could use a little optimism.
