Roethlisberger: "Bortles is ahead of the game."

Quote:You mean like when you said Rashean Mathis returned a pick 6 and Fred Taylor had 234 yards in the same game?

That was not a joke or sarcasm. That was forgetting a small detail about the series history.

My issue is people LYING in an attempt to be funny.

My issue is people LYING in an attempt to be funny.
My issue is people trying to be experts when they aren't.

I guess everybody has different issues.

Both statements above were the TRUTH.

Quote:Or you could be experiencing irrational exuberance.  Don't get me wrong, I agree it does feel and seem as though we have our guy.   I'll just wait to see what he looks like in the 2nd half of the season... you know, when teams actually have sufficient tape on him.  I mean... our point of comparison for Bortles is Henne.  Most starting QBs in the league would compare favorably to Henne.  There are probably many backups that would as well.

I don't think Bortles is just going to assume his position as a top 5 QB in this league or even a top 10 without significant work and without the normal ups and downs that rookies and young players in general typically experience.

I feel like such a Debbie Downer writing this.

Disregard everything above....  CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!

You are not a Debbie Downer. This is exactly what I said in the McCrazy vs. Gratz thread - don't judge a player based on one game. But the only player you can compare Bortles to right now is Roethlisberger. The article in the OP explains why.

Quote:They all said the same thing about Gabbert too.

Brady:  "That Gabbert guy is elusive"

Manning: "You can't stop Blaine, you can only hope to contain him"

Revis: "I hope Gabbert doesn't throw my way"

Bob Sanders: "I'm going to fake an injury so I don't have to go against Blaine"

Best post I've seen by you in a long time.  Kudos!

this was an excellent troll post. It seems very believable, until you read it. Than you realize no one ever said that. Well done.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

I wouldn't worry about finding any experts in here.

There aren't any.

I still can't get over this Jason Hill quote about Blaine Gabbert:

Quote:"We just felt something," Hill said. "Me and Kampman talked ... You just felt something about him. It's something about him that being in San Francisco I didn't have, David shows it from time to time, but in that one instance he showed it and moreso than anything he does out on the field I think that to me said he's going to be something."

Don't you know by now I can't tolerate anything that looks like an obvious lie? I have always been and always will be that way.

Hence the inclusion of the phrase 'trying to be'...

Here is the thing on the "when teams have tape on him" argument.  That implies that his development is static and doesn't improve as he learns to identify tendencies for teams he faces.  He had a poor second half because he was trying to do too much.  It wasn't because he was in over his head.

A message board is just one place that might not be right for that way of thinking.
