Joeckel is used to NFL speed from last year.  He's in his 5 game as LT and is still making mistakes. You must realize that have unrealistic expectations here. Drafting a LT high doesn't guarantee he's an all-pro after 5 starts.  It doesn't mean he sucks if it takes longer either. I'm giving him till NEXT October to prove it - and I bet he does it by December. 


 

Shoelace made a nice catch as a WR, but hasn't really gotten off the floor in terms of running the rock.  He's only had a meaningful number of carries in one game. Yu should be looking at the O-line here, and not Denard anyway IMO. 


 

Hurns is still making the same mistakes, granted he's a rookie, I'm not even being critical of him..

 

I'm just saying at some point one group of fans will be right, and one won't.  We'll see.  I just don't want to start over again. Ugh

It's not a bad thing - but it makes you look like an absolute chump if you are blaming losses on him now.

I had to watch the game on my dvr. Took the family to the zoo today so I didn't see the game live. Watching it on the dvr it becomes painful the blown coverage by the line.


That's when I started thinking about why we assembled this line and how horrible it is. We've insisted on this zone blocking scheme is it a reason why maybe we've brought in lesser talent to fit a sheme? Did we really think this group was the most talented collection of linemen available?

When we hired Caldwell the plan was clear a total rebuild. Tear it all down, design a scheme, build a team around the scheme. Didn't matter if some players here where serviceable we where going to a zone blocking team on offense and a hybrid team on defense. Two years later and we are failing on both fronts miserably.


Maybe the problems not coaching or talent but an insistsnce on only bringing in players for a specific scheme. Why don't we or haven't we simply brought in talent and developed schemes around who we have.



To me the problem is at the top, that's Caldwell. It's not popular to say but who else is responsible for building this roster? Are we passing up talent because it doesn't fit out scheme? That's simply a luxury we can't afford. It also feels like a backwards way to go about building a franchise.

I don't think that any of the players here honestly feel motivated to play in Jacksonville, and thus that's why our team is so horrible overall. You can't have a "team" if everyone is not motivated and on the same page. Plain and simple. 

 

 

 With all of these losing seasons and horrible performances at games, I'm starting to become concerned that more and more people in Jacksonville won't be as eager to come to the games anymore and support the team. Even with a franchise QB, or future franchise QB like BB and a winning team. It could be similar to the situation that the Chargers had a few years back.

 

 

I also think that Shad Khan is also at fault for many of the horrible personnel and business decisions that he has made alone, in the past 3 years.

All your points are correct.  I think you're missing my point...

 

I start every Sunday expecting progress...  And on a few occassions  I see it.  Then I see the lack there of.

 

I'm with you regarding Joekel...  But remember the dude was taken 2nd overall, right?  He should be a game changer...  He may still be, but the trajectory for his career is starting flat and thus we need to see exponential growth from him moving forward.  I hope that happens.

 

I, like you, am a big Denard fan.  That's why I mentioned his catch in this game.  But if I'm going to be critical, I do think he needs to step up.

 

With that said, I am now fully aware of how horrid the O-Line is.  It's bad.  And the weakness of our line will impede the development of not only the RBs but also our QB...

 

With that said, Storm Johnson looked really good in the few runs he had.  Perhaps he's the answer?

 

I'm actually rather pleased with the offensive play calling this week.  I thought there were alot of plays that Fish called (still not going to spell his name right, yet) that were much better than prior weeks.  

 

I just want to see continued progress.  Heck, we didn't get blown out this week.  We may as well take that as a win.

 

But with that said, there are things I want to see get better, faster....

For the sake of "we're getting closer" perspective:  You know what would have sealed a victory for the Jags today IMO?   

 

A year of NFL experience for Blake and an above average free safety.  Those aren't our only needs, but I think that would have done it.  Those two things take away a pick 6 by Bortles and 3 big plays from the Steelers.  Maybe even adding a pick for the Jags.

I feel like since we started over from scratch last season that of course we will have issues. Add in this year we still have a Huge amount of rookies as starters that it will effect the record.

 

But if we keep staying in the games like we did today than i will be a bit more happy. Of course a win is much better but I like we we show up and play and maybe that will happen more as we move forward. Such a young team in year two that I really dont expect all that much from them honestly.

To be honest, that game was ours to be had.  Even with how critical I am with the 4-3 we run, we still got pressure on Party Boy when we needed it, even causing a fumble in the red zone.

 

Bortles looked like a rookie today in critical spots.  But honestly, the plays that were called for the most part were really good.  On the pick 6, I'd have liked to see him recognize how many defenders were on that half of the field that he threw it, but I think it's something he'll figure out.

 

I'll have to keep my eye more on our FS situation next week.  I'm not sure if it's what you're saying or whether it's because our CB's give up so much space in certain downs and distances that don't make sense.  I don't know, there's just so many issues going on with the LB's and the Secondary that it's hard to figure out what's wrong, besides just throwing my hands up and saying we just stink on defense.

I dunno if we win more than a game or two all year.  It is troublesome to see how far off this team is after 2 offseasons. 

 

You are giving them 1 win too many over the past 2 seasons.

 

4-12 last year and 0-5 this year.

Many of the passes over the middle that are beyond the LBs are his responsibility and they're not being covered.  Some of it is the opposing teams picking on this zone, but his responsibility within the scheme is not being fulfilled.  

 

Look for someone like this to be drafted in April.

I don't thikn there are any good answers.  Add to the line the fact that Jacobs and Harbor stink at blocking.  Plus, M Lewis is not the All Pro blocker everyone sells him to be.

 

The line did OK at times but between their average play at best and the whiffs, missed assignments, etc. it's tough to not question D Caldwell and wonder if we have the right guy finding players.

If his approach to coaching and motivating and developing players isn't working, does he have what it takes to evolve and change for the better?

What exactly it is, probably several things.

 

Today, it seemed the Jags were more a bend but don't break D, like back in the JDR days.

 

It worked for the most part today, as they held the Steelers to 10 points on offense.
