That pick 6 happened because you could hear Bortles when audibling saying "lets try RAM" and whatever the play was I can't remember exactly. Immediately the announcer said RAM means right so if he knew tnat you know the db's heard it and knew what it was. They were ready for it.


I laugh at people who says Bradley is not 4-17 but 0-2 though. You're just gonna wash away the rest of his record because they're strategically pushing the start on their era back with the excuse of a new qb and implementing all these rookies in the starting lineup? That's the easiest way to say we need more time to get this right. Im not buying that crap; year 3 we better be fighting for the division and making a playoff push in late December. You don't get 6-7 years to build a roster you're personally pleased with. But maybe with this gullible scared to lose the franchise fan base they can.

He owns the consistent 31st rank on defense and 32nd rank on offense. His decisions helped get us there. He chose these assistants. (mostly bad). 

 

The mark of a good head coach isn't if he can look good when given pro bowlers at every position - the mark of a good head coach is taking what you have and making it look better. Considering the above record and NFL rankings on both sides of the ball, he has not done that yet. And he shouldn't get too much longer for it to start happening, either.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke. 

While I feel like most of the original post in this thread is a bunch of reaching, agenda pushing, and general knee jerking, I think the thread title brings up a decent topic.  

 

Bradley may or may not be in over his head, but I do believe we're seeing him learn on the fly. He certainly hasn't been guiltless in terms of a few game day decisions, but nothing to catastrophic.  I'm curious to see what he changes if the team doesn't begin to mature more rapidly. Could be telling over the next several weeks. 

 

I think judging an OC with 6 rookies starting is absolutely laughable. I get why many are frustrated with him - but I think those things will change and/or get better as the group matures.  As I've said before - Jedd has called a few head scratcher individual plays IMO - but on the whole he's a victim of inexperienced players, subpar players and poor execution. The O-line was a joke until 2 weeks ago and is still struggling in both run and pass much more than they should.  I'll reserve judgement for at least several weeks.

So when Bill Walsh's defense went from 27th in points and 20th in yards in 1979 to 26th in points and 27th in yards in 1980, did he not display the mark of a good coach?  What about when Jimmy Johnson's offense went from 28th in points and 27th in yards in 1989 to 26th in points and 28th in yardage, arguably they showed no improvement on the offensive side of the ball.  Did he not show the signs of a good coach?

I was definitely not in favor of the Bradley hiring at the time because I believed coming off a 2-14 season this franchise needed a proven head coach, not another attempt at a coordinator. So far I have not seen anything to change my mind about him.

 

I hear people say this team is miles ahead of 2012 when Gus took over from Mularkey. I don't see that either. In 2011, Del Rio had Blaine Gabbert and won 5 games with basically the same roster Mularkey had, then bequeathed to Bradley. Bradley and Caldwell then kept the pieces they liked, drafted other pieces they liked, then bought the remaining pieces they liked. So what we have is what Gus wanted, but we are still no better.

1. I get that. However, 1st year QB can have success more than every in todays NFL with the rules favoring passing. and Glennon isn't even that good. 

 

2. I don't think the Jags OL personnel wise is as bad as everyone here seems to think.

4. I think Jax' WR talent is fine, rookies or not. As a matter of fact I'd easily take Jax' WR corps over TB's. 

 

 

Jimmy Johnson took over a team that was very similar in overall roster talent to Bradley. 

 

ALso, some of those players you cite were DEVELOPED BY JOHNSON. He gets CREDIT for that. I think Caldwell has done a decent job in the past 2 drafts. If some of these rookies aren't developing I tend to look at some of Bradley's assistant coaches as failing in their jobs. Could a few just be bad selections by Caldwell? Sure....but I'd doubt that being the majority. Jimmy Johnson for the most part put together a good staff. Yes, he had to tweak it a bit by year 3, but I'd certainly rate his assistants over what Gus put together, for the most part. 

 

You say that Jimmy only beat bad teams in his early success in 1990, but Tampa was 3-1 and 4-2 when his Cowboys beat them twice. 

 

Bottom line is After Jimmy Johnson's 4-22 start (the low point before he started winning consistently), I don't know many coaches that have started out as bad as Bradley (4-17) and recovered to be a successful NFL head coach with the same team. 

4.  If you are talking receiving talent 1-5, I'd give the edge to Jacksonville in terms of potential.

  If you are talking top two receivers, I'd give the edge to Tampa.  Vincent Jackson's size and experience and ability places him, at this point, above all of the Jaguars WRs, and while I did not care for Evans in the pre draft build up, he has proven to be a decent big play option and is bigger than any of the Jaguars WRs.

 

I might be able to buy the argument that Jimmy Johnson inherited talent similar in quality to Bradley, if you can tell me who the equivalents to Aikman, Irvin, Newton, Norton, Tuinei and Stepnoski are on the Jaguars roster.  Remember:  all six of these guys went to multiple Pro Bowls.

Jimmy Johnson's early Cowboy teams weren't historically bad on BOTH sides of the ball. At least his defense was respectable by 1990. (His 2nd year). They only gave up a little over 300 points. 

 

Yes Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys offense was Fisch-like Horribad in the first 2 years (1989, 1990).....thats why he fixed the problem and brought in Norv Turner to take over in 1991, and the rest was history. 

 

I have NO confidence in Gus Bradley finding coordinators like Wannstedt/ Turner. How (if) you could is beyond me....

 

 

Not only do I not see Bradley being able to find 2 Coordinators like that, I DON'T see Bradley even parting with Fisch or Babich at seasons end!

Pittsburgh's pass rush really isn't all that anymore....they didn't even have their best LB (Shazier) playing....

 

But I agree....if we continue to see Bortles doing his best Henne impression with all the dinks and dunks these past 1 & a half games then we got big problems.
