Gus is paid millions of dollars each year and this is his only job.  He has the help of an entire staff (that he picked) who collectively make millions each year.

 

You are coaching little league on the side, and yet I'm willing to bet your team's record is better than 4-18.

Not at all, when you're coaching little league you're teaching the fundamentals. When they get to high school you expect them to know the fundamentals and your teaching strategy, technique and so on. It only gets more advance in the Pros, you're not coaching these guys up. The reason any given team can win in the NFL is because the talent is pretty even across the board, these are PROFESSIONAL players. Gus is focused on taking a C player and trying to make him a B player or an A player, instead of focusing on how to utilize his C players strength to attack the other teams B or C players weakness.

 

 

Yep, because that is what you can control.

 

Everything about the game can be controlled. A perfect example is our instance on a ZBS that doesn't suite the talent we have on the roster.

You can control aspects of the game.  But once it starts, Gus doesn't control a player missing or making a tackle.  That happens in practice.

I just don't see why anyone thinks his job should be safe at this point.  I think his job <i>should</i> depend on results from here on out.

Agreed.  Whether I think his job should be safe doesn't really matter.  In my opinion, he will be our coach next year.  Not my decision.

Agreed... Look, I'm not hateful over hear. I want Gus and the team to succeed...

But I don't think Gus or the Coordinators he brought in are really the caliber needed to create a truly winning team.

This is not the a scenario similar to Belicheat or Coughlin. Those guys were actually good and didn't really make bonehead decisions in terms of game planning or game management. In terms of Belecheat, he was in an organization that was circling the drain.

In terms of Coughlin, he was money, but overstayed his welcome (to the demise of the Jaguars)...

Gus isn't that same caliber. It's obvious to see now, at least to me.

Maybe I'm wrong... But man, he's making mistakes and slow to make decisions that even I can see. That MUST be a bad sign. I'm on the outside looking in, and I can tell not to challenge some calls... He waits for an "injury" to shut down Gerhart...

He's still not utilizing Ace in the passing game.

They've only now started using Shoelace in the proper way.

It's only in the 2nd half that they started playing bump and run and rushing 5 on the D side.

I mean, these things make me way worried about what caliber coaching we have on this team. And actually, I'm far beyond worried.
