Hahah I moved on from him the second he took a punter in the 3rd round. You on the other hand continued to put faith in him saying "He knows more than you do so lets trust him to make the right decisions."

 

Sometimes the GMs are not smarter than the people on this board. Sometimes they are. Caldwell definitely outsmarted everyone here with the BB pick. I like to make my own judgements about where the team is headed rather than just put blind faith in the people running the team.

Yup, I have the game DVR'd, that play was pretty lacksidasical by almost every Jaguar near the ball... It was like they just assumed the play was over...

Yes, ONE Jaguar tried to jump on the ball. 1 out of 4 that were within reach of the ball...

I think there were people on the bandwagon after his first draft and the team went 7-9. Whatever goodwill he had built up started going south when he took Alualu with the tenth pick. 

For a lot of people, sure.  But even after Alaulu, there were people saying that Gene knew what he was doing.  In fact even after we drafted a punter in the third, there were people saying that we really needed a punter, because the punter lost us a few games the year before.  


I remember people saying "Well we traded our 4th to get Blackmon, so it really wasn't a 3rd round pick, it was a 4th.  And we took a punter in the 4th before."


Gene is still a touchy subject for some of us. I think he will be until either this team is competing, or a rival picks him up as their GM.  Which I really hope happens.  Would love to see him as the new Tacks GM.

Bortles is improving, I'm not certain that much else is. They still can't tackle, defend a pass or run the football. They still play soft in coverage far too often and Jedd's offense is still crap.


Having a bunch of young players is great but when few of them look to be improving from year one to year to (some actually regressing) then you likely have a coaching problem.


I don't think the coaching on this team has even approached average to this point and the results show it. The team is hinging on being historically bad under Gus. He's only going to be able to get away with slow, minimal progress for so long before he loses the team. I already get a slight sense that he may be already. This team doesn't look like they should 6 weeks into year 2. Is it coaching? Talent level? Experience? A bit of all of them. However I don't see how anyone can think coaching can't/shouldn't be upgraded anymore. The coaching flat out stinks here.
