Fire Gus Bradley
|
Quote:Spoiled fans??? Spoiled fans in regards to how they behave. You know, they throw little tantrums on message boards demanding the team fire a head coach, thinking that if they whine long enough, and loudly enough, something will change. You're the poster girl for this group. Gus hasn't been here for 14 years, so that's not on him. Neither has the owner or GM. I understand you must cling to the past in order to fuel your incessant whining, so I get why you have to bring that up. As far as the current struggles, the team has started to right the ship. Nobody expected it to be pretty this year. What I find interesting is that you were the biggest proponent of keeping Bortles off the field for as long as possible right up to the point where Bortles took the field. Now you're whining that he's being handcuffed, even though that's not the case at all, especially in the game yesterday. We've seen the playbook progressively expanding with Bortles, which is EXACTLY what you'd expect with a rookie QB. It must be nice to play both sides of the fence. I know you're a big fan of straddling those fence posts. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

You know, they throw little tantrums on message boards demanding the team fire a head coach, thinking that if they whine long enough, and loudly enough, something will change. You're the poster girl for this group. I was one of the biggest proponents of letting Bortles wait until midseason before starting had they been able to pull that off. That said, I was never, ever a proponent of shackling Bortles once he was named full time starter, whenever it was going to be. Once he was starting, the best way to develop a franchise QB is to let him let it fly, throw his INT's, learn from them and be aggressive and develop a killer instinct - not force him to be a game manager. So no fence straddling by me at all. The good thing is that they seemed to take the shackles off Bortles a bit yesterday and let him play HIS game. Contrary to the previous 6 consecutive quarters of football. Also, why did you bring up the behind the scenes stuff regarding Mularkey if you had no intention of talking about it? Just trying to sound important with your little "sources" inside the stadium or what? Kinda bush league to even bring it up and not elaborate. Quote:I was one of the biggest proponents of letting Bortles wait until midseason before starting had they been able to pull that off.Right. He's writing the play book now. The play calling really wasn't that different from the "previous 6 consecutive quarters of football". Keep trying. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Right. He's writing the play book now. Didn't say he's writing the play book, (although a good Coordinator will coach around his QB's strengths and tailor the game plan to exploit what he can do) but the previous 6 quarters the offense was looking more like the one that they generally used for Henne than what we'd seen with Bortles and the strengths he brings. Yesterday it seemed to go back closer to what we saw the previous first 6 Bortles appearances as a Jag.
Maybe the coordinator is still learning his rookie qb's strengths. Maybe both of them are testing the qb's level of talent.

TAP just likes to run the same exuses out blaming the coaching for holding BB5 back when it could be a litany of things. Quote:Not exactly. Mularkey had a track record of mediocre. Gus was a new coach. Gus deserved at least this 2nd year. Mularkey went 9 and 7 with the bills... That's an infinitely better track record than no track record at all
Just my point Jagsfan, TMD wanted to afford Bortles time to develop then calls it coaching shackles as the rookie goes through the process of facing the different defenses. They are still gauging Bortles level of talent.

Quote:And he's not even half way through year two and you're on the fire bandwagon. Go figure. Starting 0 and 6 two years and a row should be a concern. I dont care if they end the season winning 4. Tells me we clearly have an issue with offseason prep. These winlesss stretches have to stop. You cant spin that into anything positive We show less advertisements to registered users. Anyone w/a mind set "Must Know" that the current regime of 3 years (owner), 1.3 years (GM/HC) must be given the time to build this franchise into a contender. Those of you that think otherwise must Rethink Your Thoughts...

Has Gus made any really good coaching decisions since he has been here?
How about just any good coaching decisions since he has been here? I've seen plenty of the bone-headed Bradley decisions, so no need to list those.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
I don't agree with firing him now but I will say he needs to start winning some games and show some competitive football on Sundays.
Yeah, we have rookies. Guess what, we also have rookies in the coach's offices and GM's office. They jettisoned the players they didn't like then replaced them with players they did like, yet we still are the chumps of the league. It's concerning that we're one of the 4 worst teams in the history of the NFL.... only 3 other teams in the history of the league have started 0-6 in consecutive years.
Now, maybe we're setting ourselves up for the most miraculous comeback in the history of the NFL, but I highly doubt we will. I like Gus, but he honestly has not done much to prove he's a keeper. We should keep him around for next year as well but I wouldn't be surprised if by mid-season next year, he is canned. I wouldn't be shocked if we started something like 1-4 next year and sit at 3-7 after 10 games, and the excuses will be the same. It'll be "well we're playing with a bunch of rookies and 2nd year players and we need to continue to learn and get better" Caldwell should keep his eye on a proven head coach that is known for his offense and grooming QBs. We have the QB, now is the time to find a head coach that will suit Bortles perfectly.

Do you want to keep him around for next year if we go 0-16 this year?

It would be different if we had a complete team. We are still missing FS, the entire LB corps, and a whole lot of depth, among other things. If we had those pieces in place and we were still struggling, that would be one thing. As it is, there are too many variables to make a judgement on coach. I think a lot of coaches would struggle with this squad.
Quote:Do you want to keep him around for next year if we go 0-16 this year? No. If you go 0-16 after specifically and repeatedly saying that winning isn't that big of a goal, but getting better is - I think you are digging yourself a grave. Bradley has recently started talking about how winning IS important but that the "process" is still most important. Well Gus, I don't think you can go 4-12 and then 0-16 and have anybody on your team believe your message because it obviously isn't working. I wanted 6 wins this year. That would have kept me satisfied considering the 2nd half of last season and the supposed improvement we were supposed to make from year 1 to year 2. If we don't come close to 6 wins, I would seriously consider firing Gus or at least have him fire the OC and DC because they are terrible. With that said... I also don't think we'll go 0-16 with Blake Bortles as our starter. We'll have more than a few more games like the one yesterday. We'll come out on top of some of them. I predict we go something like 3-13. I say Gus makes it to the offseason safe but starts 2015 on a very hot seat. As he should.

Yes... fire the Head Coach again... Take a look at the Browns' coaching history and tell me how that's worked out.
There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Quote:Yes... fire the Head Coach again... Take a look at the Browns' coaching history and tell me how that's worked out. I believe you fire the coach after he's had some time to prove he can be the guy. Gus hasn't proven squat yet. I'm not saying fire him today or tomorrow, but if you start your career 4-12 and then a hypotethical 3-13, and follow that up with a 1-4 start in year 3, does that require further patience?
