Bortles is the pick! How you feeling.

Quote:That SEC footballl was a different time.  Those QB's you mentioned are garbage and are NFL 3rd string back up material at that time.  Wuerrfell, come on man, that guy had a weak arm.
The SEC was weak in that time? Yet during the time of some of those players you had both Mannings playing, Jay Cutler, Cam Newton who have all had some amount of success.

Of recent QB's you have Tebow, Russell, Chris Leak to name a few. You can't just throw a blanket statement out there and then change the parameters after the fact. So what years would you like this all whittled down to now?

I didn't want Bortles. But he won't be a bust and I can get behind him. From what I've seen from his interviews I like his personality and he can definitely be the franchise guy, even if he doesn't end up a perrenial pro bowler. Houston is gonna have QB issues for years but the Jags just added a guy who will at least be solid and steady under pressure.

Now that college football season is beginning, lets place a moratorium on bumping every Bortles thread from the draft.

Quote:There's a strong feeling that somehow the Jaguars' franchise has once again fallen victim to the passive aggressive behavior of the Gator-infested media.

In essence, Bortles is revenge for not moving on Tebow. The circle of Gene Frenette and his cronies just got richer thanks to all of the PR consulting they did to make Bortles big. In fact, Khan just paid the other Team Gene Regime a big fat sum to scratch his itching ears.

No amount of PR will change what's going to happen.

Bortles is not at all elite NFL-caliber quarterback talent. At best, he can be described as a quarterback panic pick. Nobody was expected to react the way the Jaguars did. All of the other teams made the right choice in selecting the elite talent atop the draft. The Bortles pick sticks out like a sore thumb. His grade is comical to look at in comparison to what the rest of the NFL did in the top five picks.

Only a warped franchise would have Bortles at the top of their draft board. He sucks. He will suck. He will retire still sucking. The fact that David Caldwell turned his nose up at Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews simply means Bortles will have a much shorter career. So will Bradley and Caldwell.

Charlie Casserly was grim-faced as he discussed the selection earlier tonight.

To relay his words in paraphrase, Bortles was NOT the third best player in this draft. This means he is a developmental pick. Chad Henne is the Jaguars' starting quarterback. Bradley is in his second year and he doesn't have a quarterback. So he took the one highest ranked.

There are any number of videos at the draftbreakdown.com site for Bortles.

Bortles should be easy enough for anybody here to poke holes in.

A short capsule of him:

He lacks arm strength to complete deep throws with NFL accuracy. He does not line up over the center enough to exhibit proven ability on the collegiate level. This automatically down-grades Bortles at least out of the top ten prospects. He is strictly a shot-gun passer, not a true drop-back passer. He walks back to the shot-gun from over center a lot prior to the snap, suggesting he has major flaws in his drop-back foot work.

He struggles when he isn't able to stare down receivers. This bad habit ordinarily is death sentence in the NFL for any prospect. Bortles hints he will be a pick-six machine. He also struggles to complete passes on the run and this lack of ability to extend plays *successfully* will draw immediate comparisons to Blaine Gabbert.

Bortles' pro career will be short. He will start right away as the Jaguars quarterback developmental system does not exist. Ask Ricky Stanzi or Blaine Gabbert how that works.

Fans and the media will skip right past Stanzi and demand Bortles instead of Henne early next year. Teams will simply attack his grossly repetitive (habitual to the point of sickening) short passes and hit him on the back end with cloaked safeties. Then when he gets frustrated enough to try and throw deep balls and/or types of passes that demand elite arm strength, Bortles becomes largely ineffectual.

We already know that Bortles is going to wash out. He's a college football hero trained to win football games for UCF. He lacks NFL qualities, including ideal diagnostic capabilities.

The comparisons to Ben Roethlisberger are insulting to read and hear. Utter nonsense.

I think Jungle Cat is probably now a Falcons fan.  I feel bad for the Falcons fans if he signed up for the message board there.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I'm feeling pretty darn good about the pick.

Now if we could just pick somebody to really help him out so he doesn't have to do everything and we will be on our way to some wins.

He was either a troll or clinically insane. It might be the latter. He comments on every Jaguar article on the T-U site. Strange man.
