It has been said a bazillion times by Caldwell...He IS NOT building for RIGHT NOW...He's building for the FUTURE...By getting all these rookies at once, they will all come into their prime at the same time which wich means none of this ok we are set at LT now we need a center and RG (for example only) and then the next draft get one or two more pieces so by the time the first draft pick enters his prime, there are 2 or 3 more rookies on the line or need to be drafted and we have the same [BAD WORD REMOVED] we have now...People seem to forget that Caldwell has said many times, the pics are for the future and don't expect greatness rightaway (paraphrasing)


People loved what Caldwell said and agreed with him for the most part and now they are complaining because we aren't great yet...Caldwell has a slow methodical plan and he has not waivered from it.

who says it isn't smart? the people who have lived breathed and worked football all their lives seems to think it's a good way to build a roster...Once again...the youth movement isn't about right now, it's about the future...The defense is better than last year...The secondary still stinks, but the defense has more sacks so far this year than they have had in years...They are what #3 in the league in sacks? I'd say that's certainly improvement

A lot of people seem to think that Khan will be perfectly content to let gus and staff stay on regardless of the end of season record.


However, I think we got a preview of Khan's mindset in week 3. Bradley made the qb switch, and khan shows up at the postgame press conference. Coincidence? Probably not. Gus and dave were steadfast in their belief that Blake should sit all year up until that week. Khan must have said something.


There's patience and then there's standing by while everything around you burns. If they do worse than 4 wins this year, you could hardly blame him for firing the staff.

 

Khan eats anxiety for breakfast and poops patience out after lunch.  I think he'll be just fine watching things unfold for a little while.  Remember that Caldwell didn't even reveal to Khan that Bortles was the pick until dinner the night before the draft.  That doesn't communicate to me that we have a meddling owner.  I think Bradley gets the third year regardless of what happens this year and I do believe wins are not as far away as some on the board think.

Not that there was a ton of talent to begin with, but what little there was we let go. Experience can trump raw talent in the short term too. No reason to play all those young guys so soon

I think monroe gives you an upgrade at LT, id certainly take that. Id take daryl smith over Poz, that's significant. Poz's struggles in coverage are well noted. Actually, the LB group has struggled in general.

I hope they give Gus another year so we can have these same discussions all year on here about the same thing. And listen to Gus' press conferences talking about improvements and sticking to the plan with no wins again. The building for the future argument is a moving target and weak. The future could mean 7-8 years from now. In the NFL you try to win every year while building for the future. Writing years off like this is bad business.

The d-line is aboslutely improved. Like a complete 180 turnaround. Then you put 5-6 rookies starting on offense, when and where are you supposed to get the rest of your players to fix your defense by now?

 

If the team is lacking 20 quality starters, how do you replace them all in just two drafts? logic, not even once. But for the sake of argument, go ahead and tell me in the last 2 offseasons, which vets you would have signed in FA to fill the holes? We'll assume you keep 2 of our Gene Smith starters (Smith and Pot Roast???) and your draft classes are the same. How do you fix all the other holes in just 2 offseasons?

How Khan made his money is completely irrelevant. He has shown impatience with his soccer club. Stands to reason he wont let this travesty go on much longer.


And before you say "soccer is different", if this were his soccer club, gus would have been gone last year.

If you don't understand his competency in building and expanding a billion dollar enterprise then how he employs his concept of patience is moot to you. The dude had to have patience to get where he is.


In terms of running a franchise I have no idea how soccer is ran or couldnt even begin to talk about strategy and player acquisition in that sport. So I'll have to bow out to your infinite wisdom on that front.


I will say in terms of football you have to draft and develop. That process takes time. I've watched enough football to know that and I believe Khan is fine with that process and strategy.

Sometimes there is also a maturation that has to take place. You see things differently from 21 to 22 and so on. No one is set when they come out of the womb.


Sometimes it take practice then experience to realize you need to practice different to get a desired result. That's why the process takes time. People have to progress at there own place.


Look how long it took for Alex Smith to get where he is and is still only decent. Meanwhile AJ Green and Luck have dominated from day one. It's just a process of life. Football or not.

But it shouldnt be that hard to learn situational coaching, honestly. Too much is being made of the "he's still learning" argument.


Situational decisions can and should be worked on off the field.
