I hear you. That's why I like looking at issues on a case by case basis rather than buying into a politician or party. Eric can criticize that all he wants, but I find it very logical.

Unfortunately for me, my most important issue is Education.  And it seems few agree with me on how important it should be.  Especially politicians. (Conspiracy theory time!  They don't want america to get smarter, so they can keep getting elected)

 

I think a lot of people vote along party lines.  I was that way in the first election I voted in.  I started changing around the time I had kids.

I've told you this 100 times. Your label of me as liberal is incorrect. I did vote for John Kerry over Bush. The difference between you and me is I don't view politics like a cult. I'm open and willing to listen to both sides. My social views would lean liberal yes. Economic not so much though there are things I agree with democrats on some issues.

I do have socialist ideals on some things. The New Deal was the biggest socialist program in all of history, and it's done more good for people then bad. I've always thought welfare was a good thing to have for the greater good, but we need a better system in place to limit abuse.


Conservative economics....I used to own my own trucking company. Made lot's of money, but I had to spend so much money or I got the crap taxed out of me. I didn't, nor do I think, that's exactly fair. I had to buy a new pickup that I didn't really want, because I needed to use it as a tax write off.


I'm all for a flat tax, where everyone pays the same. I'm for eliminating government agencies that are not needed, or can be folded into another unit. I think we need to eliminate excessive spending, and that's where it gets muddy.


I was raised a neo conservative militia member, did my Military service, and now am a retired guy who is very much more liberal and socialist in ways.

As an example, what exactly does the Department of Education do?  What have they accomplished?

 

Just a few notable accomplishments by people educated prior to the establishment of DOE.

 

1. Developed the first computer
   
2. Put man on the moon
   
3. Invented and developed the C programming language (runs most everything)
   
4. Invented and developed the personal computer
   
5. Invented and developed the internet
   

Again I ask, what exactly has been done since the inception of the DOE?  What is it exactly that they do?

Fun fact:

 

If either Jeb Bush or Hilary Clinton win the nomination it will mark the 6th time the two families have held office. Think about it since 1989 3 families will have held office for a consecutive 30+ years if the Clinton's or Bush's win the office. Just seems like to much power for to few people to me.

I have a feeling if we all looked deeply into all politicians and not just potential presidential candidates, we'd all be very concerned with what they're doing.  Even the ones we voted for ourselves.
