I got to give Caldwell some credit on the MJD release
|
There were many fans who wanted to resign MJD to stay and Jacksonville but Dave let him walk. It's a great thing he did not resign him because Drew has been a flat out bum this season.
The stats are just horrific http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7809/ Even though the jags for some odd reason don't use their salary cap he atleast saved us a ton on not resigning this guy. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
He was clear he was done, even while he was still here. He never looked the same after he returned from lisfranc.
I think that was pretty much a no brainer. Running backs have notoriously short shelf lives and MJD was showing the effects of the injuries. The only Caldwell move that really had me wondering what he was thinking was letting Daryl Smith go.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
Check out the Jag's Forum Alternative: Duval Football Fans.
MJD was not released. His contract expired. I hate it when people call that a release.
David Caldwell had a plan to start over at the running back position. Now we are starting to see some clarity as the offensive line improves at run blocking. What's sad is his average is higher than Slowby's and he was cheaper. Where Caldwell made a good move letting him walk, but still made a bad one signing Slowby.

It was a pretty easy decision if you ask me, especially considering his downturn, and injuries, the last several seasons he was here.
I was happy with the decision not to resign him, unless it was for a fair deal for both sides.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Gotta admit, I thought MJD was gonna have a major comeback year this season. I was way off. I actually think he played OK towards the end of the season.
But he's pretty much wound up in the Black Hole and he's now way to slow to escape the event horizon in Oakland. Looks like his career is pretty much going to collapse upon itself and become a singularity never to be seen again in the NFL universe. We show less advertisements to registered users. The sad thing is he burned a few bridges here with his comments. All he had to do was eat some humble pie, say a few nice things about the organization, etc and in a few years you would have yourself a nice sideline reporting gig or commentator spot similar to what Fred is doing.
Section 214. Go Canes!

MJD never had any interest in staying in FL past his playing days. He couldn't wait to get back to the west coast. I can't help but notice how he's completely faded from the media spotlight since going to the Raiders though. Turns out no one is interested in talking to you when you're washed up and bitter
10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.
That chip on your shoulder can only take you so far. Eventually your body can't respond to that kind of motivation as well as your brain can

I still miss seeing him in a Jags jersey and hate seeing him in a raiders but I mean the stats say alot.
I still hope Toby does something worth the money we gave him as well.
It was a good decision not to renew his contract. Much the same with Cecil Shorts unless he suddenly catches fire.
No pain, no gain.
