You aren't likely to find many true hip-hop heads that hate on Snoop. He put out Doggystyle, which is probably one of the most loved and critically acclaimed hip-hop albums of all-time.

I think it was Tech N9ne who did a interview and they asked how was he making so much money and was popular even though he didnt have a record deal (or something to that extent). He said the money is in touring and merchandise, if you drop an album on a label its really the record label that's eating off that album, you have to do the whole touring deal and sell t shirts and whatnot if you want to make any sort of money.

That makes sense, I'm pretty sure we're quickly aproaching the days media isn't even sold in the retail stores anymore. I used to buy movies every week, I can't remember the last time I bought a Blue Ray or DVD, same thing as music it's just SO available online most people (I don't think) bother purchasing their own copy.

I don't think any musical genre ever dies, they seem to peak then regress and repeat.
