I got to give Caldwell some credit on the MJD release

Quote:Did I say it was only for HOF players? No, go back and read my post again. I think you need to read your own post again. What was your argument against Brunell being in the Pride? I expect to be in the stands when MJD is inducted.

Quote:So I guess no one gets in again? Barry Sanders was a Jaguar? When did that occur? Look, I'm a huge fan of MJD. I'm not one of the posters that got in a twist with his hold out and other things he did and said. I was advocating we keep him and not let him go as a free agent. But with that said, if you look at MJD objectively, he was a very good to elite RB, but I just don't think he transcended the position in the same way Freddy did for a sustained period of time. MJD had maybe 2 or 3 elite seasons, the rest were good to very good before his wheels fell off a few years back... It's just not enough to get him into the Pride. If he sustained his dominance for a bit longer, I think he'd have a stronger case. Quote:I think you need to read your own post again. What was your argument against Brunell being in the Pride? I said he wasn't even in the conversation. For players to be in the Pride they should at least be good enough to be in that conversation, not that it's a requirement they be there. Otherwise, you'll have to put guys like Kyle Brady or Keenan McCardell or Aaron Beasley in the Pride and they don't deserve to be in their any more than MJD does.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

MJD should be under consideration, but no way should he be a lock.
He had 6 good years. The first three he had to split carries with Fred Taylor, and started very few games. And he still almost reached 1000 each time. He was the face of the franchise for a few years, but ultimately never paid off much. Maurice doesn't quite have the numbers you like. Or the playoff appearances as a starter. (He did have one year of making the playoffs, along with Freddy T). Barry made the playoffs 50% of the time, and is the #3 all time leading rusher. He never had a season with less than 1000 yards, and even had 2000 one year. Fred Taylor is the #15 all time leading rusher. MJD is #44. He is tied for 31st for most rushing TD's; Tied with Eddie George and Thomas Jones. Mark Brunell is #35 for passing yards For the record. And 48th for most passing TD's. I'm not sure MJD had the longevity here to be in the pride though. It's a shame, really.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote:MJD should be under consideration, but no way should he be a lock.To add to that MJD is currently about 100 yards behind Herschel Walker on that list. He's in some pretty good company and anytime you can say a player is in the top 50 at his position all time he should be strongly considered for entry.

If Fred Taylor is the standard for The Pride as far as RBs is concerned, then the next RB inducted to the Pride must have better numbers than FT. MJD was a fine player for us. Pride worthy he isn't.

MJD should at least make the wall of The Conch House.

Quote:Then you're going to wait decades until someone comes by and breaks that standard. Not that I completely agree with him, but... what's wrong with waiting Decades?

Quote:Then you're going to wait decades until someone comes by and breaks that standard.Sound logic unless you want to cheapen what it takes to be inducted to The Pride. It's called The Pride for that reason not The Very Good of the Jaguars.

Quote:Then you're going to wait decades until someone comes by and breaks that standard. True it might be a good while, maybe decades, before a Jags RB comes in and breaks that standard, especially with the way the NFL is so pro-passing now. Do you really want to LOWER the standard to put the next RB in? How about the next QB that goes in, lower the standard for him too? Shouldn't the next great player that makes the Pride be even BETTER at his position than the last player was? Or should they just put any really good players in the Pride, even with lesser stats?

The Jaguars don't have a bevy of players they can choose from to commit to that standard. Fred Taylor is the exception, not the rule. We show less advertisements to registered users. MJD isn't making the pride. Especially not before jimmy smith or Keenan McCardell
No commercial messages in sigs
Quote:The Jaguars don't have a bevy of players they can choose from to commit to that standard.Well the franchise has only existed for 20 years so what do you expect? When other teams induct players into the team HOF they don't bring in someone who was a lesser player than the players already inducted. When Emmit Smith was inducted for the Cowboys his numbers were better than Tony Dorsett's. You want your new guys to be better than the guys that are already there not go backwards.

Quote:The Jaguars don't have a bevy of players they can choose from to commit to that standard. That's because they have only been around for 19 years now, and have been pretty awful for more than half a decade now, and that's with MJD as our leader. While there are no rules, the next player at his position that gets inducted into the Pride, SHOULD be the exception, not less then exceptional.

Quote:The Jaguars don't have a bevy of players they can choose from to commit to that standard. There's nothing that says we need to add more players to the Pride. Only those who earn it should go in. There'll be periods of time where we don't add any players, and that's exactly how it should be.

Quote:That's because they have only been around for 19 years now, and have been pretty awful for more than half a decade now, and that's with MJD as our leader. Your standards are too high. Try lowering them.
Quote:You're comparing the JAGS to the COWBOYS. Maybe you should RAISE your Pride standards. Look, it's obvious you like MJD, most of us on here do, including me. Maybe MJD is your favorite player, that's fine too. Like a lot of others on here I just believe that the next RB to go into the Pride should be even better than Freddy was, or at the very least, just as great. MJD just wasn't. Ultimately, it's not up to any of us on here anyway, so all we can do is have opinions about whether he should go into the Pride or not.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:Maybe you should RAISE your Pride standards. How am I going to raise my pride standards when there weren't any Jaguars players who can justify me doing so??? |
