The Jags have Ruined Bortles

#61

As the teams we have played progress this season, I realize our team is better than I give them credit for being. Look at what Miami did to the Chargers today and consider how the Browns and Bengals have played. Bottles is a rookie that hasn't received enough reps at the most important sports position. He doesn't look lost, confused or over his head. He is a young kid who needs time to grow. The talent is so raw around him. The growing pains are going to be the story for the rest of the season.

I would like to save all the "he is broken beyond repair" posts and revisit them in a couple of years. He is a rookie and learning on the job is always a bit chancy.  Today was the season half way point and much to small of a sample size to really make an intelligent observation.

This.. but seriously, At what point do we starting handing out some blame to him rather than using the " he's a rookie excuse"?

I will reiterate that I think he is the answer, but he's got to start showing some improvement( and he is for the most part, other than the bone headed interceptions)

Completing one game without an throwing an int would be a start.

  • Ravens @ Steelers 2002 (PIT 34-31)
  • Jaguars @ Titans 2009 (TEN 30-13)
  • Jaguars @ Titans 2012 (TEN 38- 20)
  • Colts @ Jaguars 2013 (IND 37-3)
  • Jaguars @ Titans 2014 (TEN 16-14)
  • Panthers @ Jaguars 2015 (CAR 20-9)
  • Jaguars @ Titans 2015 (TEN 42-39)

Well he's not as "broken" as Phillip Rivers...

The problem is everyone said they wanted us to be competitive. Now we are so they need something else to complain about

Atleast we are in games headed into the 4th quarter. Now the team needs to learn how to finish. I see improvement, but it's definitely tough to digest after losing. Hopefully we beat the cowboys in london

This thread is why no credible football fans come to this board anymore.

Agreed. Losses suck. But once the emotion settles down you can see how much different it is this year than last year.

I usually give myself 24 hours before I post. I was proud of the way they came back in the 2nd half. They are atleast fighting through adversity . The Bengals were just the better team.

There was the same whining and complaining from the same cast of characters back when this team had far better records and averaged 500 football year in and out. They think they are smarter than professionals who are paid millions to run a franchise. They are far too stupid to realize that for every single play of every single game, one team wins and one team loses. 50% of the teams in the league talk about a loss every single week. I don't bother trying to explain it to them anymore.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Actually, people like you are the reason. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

It's like some people will just not accept this simple truth. The expectation is 36 td's and 4600 yards in his rookie year. Anything less is a bust.

Is this a real question lol. When he is no longer a rookie is when that excuse will no longer be used.

Just a rookie on a really mediocre offense. It was a really bad offense when we couldn't run but that has gotten some traction. We need Lewis and a proven #1 receiver. Having productive rookies like Hurns is great but you can't make a living with them. Nevertheless you'd like to see Blake throw the ball away and not take such big risks when we're in position to score. It's like he wants to make the big play every single play and that just keeps coming back to haunt him.

No pain, no gain.

Man I  love that game so much. It kills me though how it has warped peoples expectations of human beings on the football field. I remember when I had Gabbert tossing 60 TD's a season and winning MVP and super bowl MVP every year

The kid is on pace for 3760 yds ,  16 TDs and  29 INTs.    (depending on how you factor in the 1/2 game)

Not the TD/INT ratio you want  -- but seems about right for a rookie that was touted as a raw prospect with upside.

I'm more excited about his pocket awareness, elusiveness and willingness to sling it than I am worried about the steep learning curve he's facing with his reads and decision making.  That stuff is just so much more teach-able.

Quote:Screens lol
Nailed it!  I'm so [BLEEP] sick of seeing WR, RB, and TE screens.  All we do is run screens and 4 yard routes.  Playcalling has been terrible.

BORTLES ISN'T A FRANCHISE QB. FOURNETTE WILL BE A BUST.
