When Does Rebuilding Begin?

This regime is definitely getting 1 more year. The defense looks promising and we have tons of cap room. In FA they will probably bring in 3 high level players. Everyone will have an extra year in the system. If it doesnt look good then its time to rebuild "again"
I personally have moved on from the prior rebuilds. It's been very frustrating, but this whole thing reset for me in January 2012 and it feels different.
I hate the W/L record and the number of blowouts, but what Caldwell is up to seems radically different than the Shack/Gene eras to me. I feel like we're halfway there in this one and headed the right way. Quote:I personally have moved on from the prior rebuilds. Not disagreeing with you necessarily...but what do you mean "what Caldwell is up to seems radically different..." Can you give your thoughts? Examples? How you think he's better than other GMs? If anyone thinks gus and company will survive a 3 win season and a regressing bortles, i dont know what to tell ya
Quote:Not disagreeing with you necessarily...but what do you mean "what Caldwell is up to seems radically different..." Can you give your thoughts? Examples? How you think he's better than other GMs?Sure. Much of it is what he's done with free agency, late rounders and UDFA. Players like Ryan Davis, Allen Hurns, SenDerrick Marks, Roy Miller, Alan Ball, Demetrius McCray, Abry Jones, Bowanko, Denard Robinson, and Telvin Smith. You've got cheap free agents playing well above their pay grade - UDFAs contributing in their first and second years - 5th, 6th and 7th rounders looking like quality depth and/or starters. He's savvy. The comments he made about each player after selecting them on draft day I found very insightful. He, Gus and Fisch all seem to have a very collective vision and he was very clear about how they see each player potentially fitting into it. His willingness to talk to the media openly while at times literally laughing at some of their more ridiculous questions or comments. His confidence level in the Bortles pick. Him insisting that Denard was a special player. His "not even if he's released." His idea to move Pasztor to tackle when he struggled at guard. (yeah - oddly enough - that was Dave's idea to try and salvage a Gene acquisition) All of it just adds up to a different feel. I think he knows what he's doing and he's got his finger on the pulse of the modern league. If Joeckel, Cyp, Blake and Allen Robinson turn out like we hope they will - he'll have really done some great things for this franchise. Quote:Sure. Much of it is what he's done with free agency, late rounders and UDFA. They had a collective vision for toby, and boy did they hit on that one. Quote:They had a collective vision for toby, and boy did they hit on that one.Toby was disappointing and also hurt. He looks much better now that he's a bit healthier and playing spell back to Denard. Could Gus and Fisch have figured that out a few games sooner? Yes. That would have been great. Wouldn't have changed much, and I like where the run game is now, so I'm not shedding any tears over it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote: Toby was disappointing and also hurt. He looks much better now that he's a bit healthier and playing spell back to Denard. That's the thing. There are bright spots, but we still find ways to lose. Do you really, really think this staff survives with 2 or 3 wins if bortles doesnt show improvement?
Also, it takes 4 or 5 weeks into the regular season for this staff to finish player evals? How the hell do these guys have jobs?
The lack of readiness to start the last two seasons is laughable Quote:That's the thing. There are bright spots, but we still find ways to lose. Do you really, really think this staff survives with 2 or 3 wins if bortles doesnt show improvement? Maybe not the entire staff. I think Caldwell and Bradley are absolutely safe unless Bradley has another rash of poor game management decisions. Maybe the DC and a position coach or two get sent packing, but I wouldn't be surprised to see everyone remain. The coaching needs to be better, but the youth is skewing the perception and making their jobs tougher. Dumb mistakes make coaches an easy target, but I simply think that we are witnessing growing pains by a young roster and a young staff. MaybeI'm wrong to be confident, but I just see this thing getting better from here on out. Of course there will be more mistakes and losses - but I think they are righting the ship. Started a month or so ago. Suddenly we aren't getting blown out and are close to winning some games against some tough opponents.
So many cry babies Quote:Started a month or so ago. Suddenly we aren't getting blown out and are close to winning some games against some tough opponents. Suddenly we arent disastrously bad. Just really bad still.
Third straight 1-8 start, something has to give. I like what Caldwell has done, sort of. We need to spend more in FA to supplement with the draft, we need better coaches, and we need the high draft picks to start showing improvement. I'm still cool eith Caldwell, can't say the same about Gus.
